My doctor said this "I figure if he was there at conception, nothing we do in here will offend him.". Yeah, she's pretty witty.

Most doctors like to see a partner who is involved in the prenatal care. I it's like a girlfriend, well that might be different depending whether you want to see this friend seeing all your goodies out in the open (IF they're doing an internal exam that visit). Other than that feel free to bring them along! Just have them not be in the way and there should only be questions by the father and not really the friend.

I always loved having my husband with me for the exams during pregnancy. It was one of the ways he could be involved with the pregnancy. Plus it helped me to think about something else besides just the exam.

Funny story... So my first prenatal visit, my husband came with me. When the nurse pulled the sturrups out for my pap and normal check ups, my husbands eyes just about poped outta his head! He told us I'll excuse myself, but the midwife made him stay. Poor baby, he was mortified. He said next time he'll RUN outta the room if it happenes again!

if it makes you more comfortable than go ahead...I bring my husband in whenever I can..I see it alot at the office..I believe its more of the norm nowadays...I mean they created the child too and should be involved throughout the pregnancy and the prenatal care as well....on another note..I also brought/bring my mother in with me sometimes too..I also see this alot at the office...again its more the norm..women no longer have to go through pregnancy and childbirth alone... my mother always says how nice it is to have a baby nowadays as when she had my siblings and I the husband wasnt even allowed in the room!

I dont think there is really anyway to be etiquettly correct when it comes to going to the exam room. Just warn them ahead of time.

Your own comfort level should be the only factor.

My hubby comes to every one. He enjoys being so involved. A friend is ok too. Its totally your decision.

Mine has been to all the important ones, he can't get the time off to make it to most. I have had to bring my kids which they normally discourage, but I have had no real problems with it.
