Just wondering if maybe some ghosts got stirred up and angry when they started to build the new Yankee Stadium. Or maybe the Yanks now have the Curse of the Bernino (getting rid of Bernie one year too soon).

I hope this is not the beginning of a long downhill path for the Yankees. I know we've been spoiled for over 10 years now (in recent history, obviously also for many years before, too), but this is excruciating to watch.

You are only half right. The Red Sox got cursed after they traded the player with the highest paycheck of his time, Babe Ruth. The Yankees are now on the other end of the spectrum, as they traded for the player with the highest paycheck of his time. I now believe, since the Yankees haven't made it to the World Series since getting A-Rod, that they are suffering from the Curse of the not so great Rodriguez.

being a die hard bosox fan I never really bought into the idea of the whole "curse of the bambino" thing. it was all media driven and made up by a local sports writer. it was always an excuse to cover up for poorly fielded teams.
right now the yanks are in a downward spiral and all the big spending they did on agin players and expiring contracts is coming back to bite them in their rear ends.
the days of overpaying players with a proven record are gone.

billy beane ( oaklands GM) had the right idea with his whole $$ ball theory. sometimes the less money you spend but spread it out over a broader area is better spent. there are some great guys that dont have to cost you an arm and a leg out there.

clemens coming back ( if and when) should help out the younger pitchers on your staff, but those of you looking for immediate gains on that signing are gonna be in for a long season.
so I think they will catch the redsox?
NO
the sox have too big a lead right now.
do I think the yanks will miss the playoff?
right now if they keep playing this way and dont show any signs of improvement I dont see them getting the wild card. last I checked they were 6 games outta it. thats not much and the season is still early but if the injuries keep continuting for them and there hitters dont snap outta the slumps they have been in, again you wont be eating a hotdog at yankee stadium in OCT. sorry..

Oh my gosh. It has been 2 months. 2 months into the season and they're not doing so well. This is hardly a curse.

I think it shows a few things...1. That money can't necessarily buy the winning team (although it does help), 2. baseball players are just people, too, and have their slumps.

I am hardly a Yankees fan, but puh-leeze. Try being a fan of a team who is "cursed" with cheap management who lets our best players go (A's)...or a team that hasn't won a championship in their current city (i.e. Giants or any other teams)...or a team that has been around forever and not won (i.e. Cubs). Or even a fan of the Yankees in the early 90s when they were slumping. Really, this is no "curse" by any stretch of the imagination.

You are correct!

The Yankees are cursed now, and will never ever again win a world series.

You have some good thoughts as to why, but may I interject and say they havent won since getting a-rod..so maybe he is the main reason.

At any rate, I am enjoying THE FACT THE YANKEES HAVE NOT WON A WORLD SERIES IN THE 21ST CENTURY
(which started in 2001 for all you who can't understand plain english).

Six championships in 30 years, so lets be clear on your dominance, especially since most of them were in the late 90's when you arguably had one of the best all around team's in history.. Last one was six years ago. Curse of the A-Rod is now in effect.

No you're not cursed your just experiencing what a NORMAL TEAM goes through. Every once in a while you have a bad year and you get over it. They will win a championship again before 2020

It seems as if it has reversed itself on the Yankees starting during the playoffs in '04. I think the Babe may have gone to sleep or decided to take pity on the Sox

The Yankees are just having an off year. They can't always be on top. No team is. That is part of playing winning and losing. You learn from all of this to improve in the future.

Curses and ghost stories are for excuse makers. Players create their own fortunes or misfortunes. Talk of curses make cute little stories for the media-but grown ups know you CREATE your destiny.

I agree with Ralph; let's just be patient ... I really think they're gonna come back strong! If there is a Curse of Bernino, I would certainly understand it, what they did to him was just wrong.
