Britax is one of the best brands. I use a Safety 1st though. They're really good too. Mine is the Summit but I don't think it is only for forward facing. Fisher Price also makes a really good car seat. If you go to http://boards.babycenter.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=bcus9421 they can tell you anything and everything that you could ever possibly want to know about carseats, where to buy them and how to install them. And they'll probably tell you MORE lol.
They'll also make sure that you know the benifits of extended rear facing, including internal decapitation. If I drove anymore than I do(maybe once a week in a very small town) then I would have got a carseat that could go rear facing, and kept my son rearfacing until he was at least 2. We turned him FF after he turned one.

Look at Britex, there rear facing one goes to 30 lbs, and forward until 40-65 lbs.(the 5 pt harness will). Also for any car seat that goes over the 40 lb mark in weight, look to see when you can no longer use the harness and need to use it as a belt positioning.

Britax Roundabout Convertible. It can be rear or forward facing. Easy to install. Retail price is about $220. Go to www.albeebaby.com. You'll get a better price. We ended up buying two. One for each car.

If I had it to do over again i would get a Britax or Radian. They are the best safety wise and they harness for the longest time.
As it is, I have to replace my son's seat as he is almost level with the top slots in his Graco comfortsport and his coso touriva and is only 2.

You can call your Department of Public safety office and ask for the officer that handles the carseat safety program. When I called I gave the officer my daughters height and weight and he gave me suggestions for ones that would fit my daughters needs.Out of the ones recommended I bought a Britax. Love it and all the safety features.

If you can afford it, Britax is the best.
We can't afford it, so we have an evenflo triumph. It does the job and seems quite comfy! (and its under $100!)
And, you keep it rear facing for as long as possible (for those who might be confused!)

don't get the eddie bauer brand, they are junky. Get a graco or evenflo, and get a higher price one, the low end models work fine , but the covers wear out too fast and your baby will be in it until they are 3-4.
