I'm currently a soldier, serving the last year of my 4 year contract, and I'm looking to go to college once I get out. I want to do something worthwhile while at the same time getting paid $80,000 + per year. What kind of bachelor degree programs are there out there that will provide me with the skills needed to get a high paying job like that? I've been considering doing the pharmacist thing but it just seems like such a long road to a career in that field. Can anybody please help me decide what to do with my life, what kind of degree program to start, and what kind of job(s) to pursue?

Computer science comes to mind. Focus on "web 2.0" or even "web 3.0" skills.

In California, if you're good, you'll hit that salary level within 3-4 years and companies will be falling all over each other to get you. And you'll be on a path to well over $100K.

Some other well-paying careers in the link.

I don't know of any entry-level jobs in any field with salaries in that range (sorry, but most companies make you prove yourself before they will open up their wallets to that degree). The only thing I can think of with the potential for that right off the bat with a bachelor's degree is sales, but the jobs with that possibility are usually those with a strong component of the pay coming in the form of commission, so you only make the big money if you perform unusually well. It can happen, but it isn't a guarantee.

Get a degree in business/retail management and while you're working on that, get a job with a major retain chain like Best Buy, Staples, Lowe's, etc. and start working your way up. I believe Best Buy store managers make about $80,000 a year. Don't go to Circuit City. They're suffering financially, not giving pay raises and booting their highest earners.

There is no Bachelor's degree that will provide you with the skills to earn $80,000. I did read on the online site of the Chicago Tribune in April that nail technicians who own their own shops take in over $75,000 a year - and you save the cost of college.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

you should get a master in business since business is easier than pharmacy and it's the same length: 4 years bachelor and 2 years to get a master. And you will have a lot more chances of moving up into executive position with probably higher pay than pharmacy in the long run.
