If you haven't see the movie THE CRYING GAME then you should and it will make things more clear. Yes, Lola is a transvestite, a guy who dresses like a woman; and the guy who sings the song is inexperienced in such things but, then again, I've heard people argue that Lola was a very butch dominatrix type and that when the singer says that he knows what he is, that he's a man and so's Lola, it just means that the dominatrix is so strong and "dominant." She makes the moves, not him. She calls the plays.
It's about role reversal, they argue, boys will be girls and girls will be boys because the roles are getting blurry and it's OK for women to be sexually aggressive.
No matter what the interpretation, it's a great song and one of my favorites. I think I'll name my next dog Lola, LOL!

Funny song- yes, Lola is a dude and the person singing it is an inexperienced young man who figures it out almost too late.
