You most likely have a Video/Graphics Card which uses Shared memory. Which means that instead of having its own memory to use, it uses your computer ram. If the game allows you to continue installing, you should do that because 8Mb of ram isn't that much. You could also upgrade your video card, or like others suggested, upgrade to 1GB of RAM

The system does have 512mb of ram, but once you start it up, the operating system ( Windows ), and various drivers ( video, sound, network card, etc ) are loaded into memory to make the system work. Each of those components eat up a bit of the total ram, so when running, the amount available to other programs is a bit less. You'll need to add more ram to be able to run that game.

i've never heard of a computer having 504 mb of ram, thats odd. You definately have 512, theres probably some kind of error, you might not meet some other requirement like the graphics card or something.

something is allocating part of the RAM to a specific purpose and that makes Windows report s different amount.
In systems where the video uses system RAM, you can get the RAM misreported by over 250 mb.

Your Hardware might be using it such as your graphics card. Also you need more RAM as mentioned before, 1GB is good. Your Video card might also not be meeting requirements or you do not have enough hard drive space

8M is being used by the operating system, etc. You may also have one of those computers that use some of its main memory for video, as opposed to having separate video memory. Depends on where you're pulling the 504M figure from.
