I'd say both.

Without time everything would cease to exist.

However, if nothing physical existed then time would not exist either simplly because time requires things to give time to.

If nothing exists then nothing can be timed, and if nothing can be timed then time cannot exist. Its like haveing a parasite attached to a huge cut... a leach. The leach will clog up the cut and we will produce more blood to keep him alive. However, the moment the leach is removed, the flow of blood will cause us to bleed to death, and will cause the leach to starve after all the blood is gone.

The concept of "time" has always been one of he most interesting "question" in philosophy. You neither need time or does time need you. Time is just a concept, and idea. For example where was time before it got here? Where does it go when it is gone? The "past" does not really exist. The "future" does not really exist. The only thing that we can know for sure is that --- at this instant "in time," is that I love my wife.

Time is only something we have created here on earth according to the earth's rotation.
However, we need time to keep our lives organized and scheduled. It is a great measuring tool, but it is abstract and illogical to meld it with the idea of a "timed" existence.

we need time. time goes on whether we exist to measure it or not. the sun will continue to rise and set even if no intelligent being is there to make note of it. however, without time there is no life.

Time needs me (or I would never have been given so much of it).

Time cares little for me and will not wait for me or anyone, so it obviously doesn't need me. I am at its mercy and need it to be favourable. Yes I am the needy one here....

Time just marches on by, regardless of our needs.

I need time. It would be presumptious to think that time needed me. Maybe I can benefit someone later, or maybe not.
