I've been teaching for almost 3 months as an English Teacher. I've been observed as a teacher at the school I'm working for but I failed my first observation. So I got observed again in which I passed. However, my school has decided to drop my full-time position to part-time. Which means my hours are cut short and therefore I won't beable to earn enough money to make a living. Should I stay at this school?

I have been offered another job with another school but its really far...should I just take this offer or stick it out with my school and work really hard next semester to get my full-time status back?

I like teaching and I'm learning new things everyday with my students and teaching styles that works and doesn't work.

I can't believe they can do that to you! You passed the second observation so what is their problem? You sound like you deserve to work in an establishment that has a more caring and supportive ethos. We all have bad days and they know it. Why not ask one of the decision makers if you could shadow them for a day? Then watch them squirm. Good luck to you and God bless.

I don't know about teaching but it would seem that once you get a bad report in an assessment as you have done it does not leave you for a long time. I would suggest a new start if you want to continue but it would be as well to find out why you failed it could have been just a bad time for you or some sort of diff of opinion.
Was the observation done by the same person each time?

Sounds like you're in a highly competitive school system. Personally, I'd go with the full time position. You have to take care of yourself first. If part time won't give you a living, I'd take what I have learned and apply to more jobs. Use the job you have lined up right now as a back up. You might find a job that is in the area. Good luck in whatever you do.

You have already answered your own question. If you stay, you will not be able to earn enough money to live, so you have to go. Now, the question is, where? You can take the other job, or maybe you might want to move to another region. I know they are so desperate for teachers in Las Vegas, you could probably get hired in a minute!

I would say talk to your supervisor - Who is in charge there? the principal?(im guessing)

Try to work something out - try to explain to them how you are on a fixed income and really need those hours. If they absolutely aren't willing to help you fix those extra hours in have you ever thought of doing another type of job like something simple maybe therapeutic even - becoming a massage therapist maybe? they make great pay..and you can be trained to become one (has seen comercial ads on television all the time with this type of stuff)

weigh the pros and cons like are you going to get payed more at this other place are you going to be able to get the position? If you cant then you should consider perhaps getting a roomate and or moving in with a relative (if possible)

truly sorry your having a rough time here, it must be stressful.

Hope any of this helps if you want to chat I'm on celestialtears006 is my username on yahoo ;)!

You should take the other job because the school you are at now may not want you back as full time. And they might just be trying to let you go one step at a time!

Go for the other school. You must always show you are prepared to expand your horizons, and that you are in demand. If the school you are at want you they will up their offer, and make it obvious that they want you to stay. Don't put up with promises, let them speak through your wage packet..
