I am a UK buyer thinking of purchasing a CD from cdjapan.co.jp for my daughter, is their anything I should be aware of such as heavy import taxes, large shipping costs .etc. Would anyone be able to recommend this site?

Shipping costs should be upfront when you make the purchase.

You will only be liable for U.K. import duty if the total cost of the CD (including shipping) exceeds £18, or £36 if it is marked as a gift. Duty will only be levied if the CD is caught by one of the random checks at customs - if it isn't, you pay nothing extra.

I can't recommend the individual site, but I have bought from a Japanese music store before. For a rare CD, unavailable in the UK, it came upto about $27. Only about $7 of that was postage.

Getting hit with import tax is a hit and miss affair. Sometimes the package slips on through, sometimes not. It also depends on what the company puts on the packaging. If it is marked as a "gift", then you don't have to pay the tax.
