I am a surgical tech and assist on about 3 to 5 of these per day so I know the procedure very well.

(1) A straight hemostat is applied to the posterior midline of the foreskin to provide hemostasis. This clamp is usually left in place for several minutes. (2) The clamp is removed and a dorsal slit is created. A number #15 blade or straight scissors are used to make the dorsal slit. (3) A circumferential freehand cut aroudn teh shaft is carried out as far back as the surgeon determines appropriate. A knife or scissors is used to remove the foreskin. A cautery is used to coagulate blood although blood is minimal. (4) Raw edges of the small remainder of the foreskin are pulled together and sutured, leaving the glans and frenulum exposed. The suture used is absorable. (5) Nonadherent dressing is loosley applied to the distal penis.

The procedure is very quick and anesthesia is usually only used upon request of the mother. The nerve endings in a newborn's penis are not formed yet so analgesics are very rarely used......contrary to what people believe the procedure itself is not painful for the baby since these nerve endings are nonexistent at this point. Most babies are not happy about being taken out of a nice warm blanket and sprawled out on a cold circ table...this will cause them to cry not the procedure. Not all babies are strapped down it just depends on the circumstances. I assist and part of my job is to hold the baby down. Straps are used if there is not someone to assist or if the baby is just too hard to hold still by an assistant.

Wow a thumbs down and my answer could not be any more accurate considering that is step by step how the procedure is done. Grow up.....I guess it's hard for people to see an answer that is actual knowledge instead of what they THINK it should be.

Pain medication is not given anymore unless requested by the mother. I have worked in several different facilities and this is standard practice everywhere.

They apply an anesthetic cream or an injection. The foreskin is then separated from the head of the penis and clamped down. Then they cut it. They apply some ointment and bandage it up. The baby is strapped to a table during the procedure. Below is a link to some videos on Google that show how it is done. Good luck with the decision you make!

Circumcision is a very personal decision. There are some developed countries where it's not even the norm anymore (Australia comes to mind). I think it has its benefits and downfalls, but it's your choice in the end to do what you feel is best for your baby.

There are different techniques for circumcision. I have three sons and each one of them was done differently. The one I liked best was a plastic cap that clamped the foreskin both under and above so that the blood flow to the foreskin was stopped and the foreskin simply sloughed off after about a week.
The most barbaric was to simply tie the infant down and cut away with scissors.

Oh my goodness gracious, I just watched that video that the first answerer provided and almost cried, that is rediculous!! If you are thinking about circumsizing your child rethink your decision. Dont do it, its cruel and doesnt need to be done. Im SOOOOOO glad I didnt put my child through such pain and agony. Leave him the way God made him.

My coverage whilst it includes ignore of anybody or ingredient is that in case you have faith it, then say something. despite if its in basic terms a small tip or letter to somebody asserting 'whats up, you only might pick to check something out' i hit upon it unhappy that if the guy doesnt artwork and he remains burdening you with the youngster sitting that in line with hazard priorities arent in line. I in many circumstances think of that adult males attempt to push off changing young ones too, so him bringing them over filthy could be b/c he's established with you will sympathize and alter them. certainly, if he cant even watch his infants via himself the primary public of the week, then I ought to ask- what is going to he do whilst they fall ill? If he punishes one b/c they do no longer pick to be potty knowledgeable, then what is going to he do whilst they get an F in college- only enable them to go through with it!? i've got actual heard of worse, yet i know that there must be extra effective situations. in case you have faith ignore record it. youthful infants are like clay and are molded, and at this form of younge age in this era young ones must be imagining impossible issues, no longer thinking approximately if its accessible to get nutrition! stable success!
