I just ask because a local bar..I repeat BAR in town was just converted to non-smoking because the city passed a smoking ban. Personally I think its a little extensive considering bars are supposed to be a place where smoking is generally accepted, and the same people who complain about "second hand smoke" seem to have no problem with the loud music killing their hearing, the alcohol rotting their liver, or the VD that they get from the chicks they take home...leave smokers alone you volvo driving yuppie scum.

Alright...from now on I'd like all of the non-smokers to stop driving. The exhaust from your vehicles is not only harmful to me, but also to the future of our country and its environment.
While we're on the topic of things that you do that could potentially kill me, please also stop :
Speeding....Talking on the cell phone while driving....Beating your kids while driving....drinking and driving....putting on make-up while driving....voting for republicans...supporting republicans...littering...riding bikes in the city or on the highway...listening to the eagles....
Your smoking ban has raised my blood pressure......should I start crying now because your stupid smoking ban is effecting my health.
Oh, and for those of you who complain about the smell....why would smoke bother you if you're totally full of well...you know.

I'm assuming my opinion on smoking bans in bars would only serve to annoy you further. I think you're probably riled up enough as it is.
The ban where I live extends only to bars which serve more than "bar food". So, as a bar owner, if you opt out of the "restaurant" side of the business, you can still be a smoking establishment. That seems pretty reasonable to me, but then I'm a nonsmoker and I find anything that keeps me from being around it really reasonable.
I'm sure you disagree.
Addenda: (*laughter*) If you ask these questions you have to be prepared for people to disagree with you. Part of the reason the smoking ordinances are going in is because people are COMPLAINING to local governments about the smoking. So, when you point your question to NON-SMOKERS what did you expect?
I think you just needed a forum to rant in and thought this would make you feel better. You may want to address the same question to SMOKERS. It may make you feel a little better.

I like the bans. Do you know how many people die from smoking? It wouldn't kill people to give it up.... especially in a bar. People can still drink and have a good time without killing the people around them. I'm looking at a poster right now that says to call cigartees what they really are: money suckers, stench, tumor, breath rot, by-pass. I think that that sign is totally true. So many people died from smoking and the ruin the health of all those that area around them. Is there really anything that smoking can do for you? no. You can go have a good time and do other things besides smoke. You can probably do more fun things if you don't smoke (you can do things like bike and ect. without having as hard of a time). I seriously think that smoking bans could be placed every. Heck, for all i care, smoking should be make illegal. It kills a ton of people and ruins the others. Should something like that really be illegal?

I agree with you even though I am a non smoker. But smoking is a bad habit to break. So banning smoking from a bar where smoking is usually accepted is not right. Smokers that want to kill themselves from cancer need a place to do that. Even if it is a bar.

I hate it. I'm a non-smoker, but I used to smoke. Especially when I wanted to relax and have a few drinks at a local bar. People need "vices". As long as we do them in moderation and within reason. Society or should I say government is stripping us of our individual rights each and every day with every passing law. A law is never about giving us more freedom. It is always about taking something away on the premise that "it's for our own good". Well that may be fine when it comes to traffic laws, but smoking?? There's no avoiding it...some day it will be illegal to smoke "everywhere". It makes as much sense as the three states that still ban alcohol sales on Sunday!!

Several towns in my area have banned smoking in all public places. I love it. I am gonna go to bars anyway, but I can now stay and enjoy myself a lot longer now because I don't have to worry about my allergies and sneezing every 5 seconds like I do when I have smoke blown in my face all the time. Frankly, the way things are goin, I think in the next couple decades smoking in general will be illegal, so ya might as well get used to it. Oh, and I drive a camry, and certainly not yuppy scum, just a nice gal with allergies!

I agree that it goes too far to tell a private business owner whether or not they can allow smoking in their own business.
However, think about why so many non-smokers are so upset and want stricter rules: smokers are generally inconsiderate, not all of them, but most of them. My right to clean air overrides your right to smoke. When you can't walk down the sidewalk without breathing smoke and steping on cigarett butts, some of them still burning, you start to get annoyed.
When I drink or get VD, it doesn't force you to drink or Get VD, but when you smoke next to me, I have no choice whether or not I breath your smoke, I get especially pissed when people smoke near my 4 month old daughter, so I pretty much support any rule that sucks for smokers, even if its not fair,

I think smoking should be banned from indoor public areas everywhere. Not only does it smell disgusting, it wrecks the taste of food, and can cause damage to those who chose not to smoke. Having a drink or two isn't going to kill you, it's when you drink to excess, that's when it becomes harmful. Smoking is an individual's choice, and smokers should be conscious of others who choose not to smoke.

I am a non-smoker. I think some places should be smoke free.. Hospitals, schools, some family restaurants (if they choose to be). However, I have never understood why in the world you would make a bar smoke free! It's a bar!

Just one thing to mention. I work at a bar and I don't think non-smokers realize what an effect this has had on us financially. As waiters, waitresses and bartenders, we need people in our bar, and since the ban, traffic has decreased a lot and it is having a devastating effect on a lot of people. Not making rent because of a stupid ban.

I think smoking bans are terrific. Why should non-smokers have to choose between going to a bar and their own health? Lots of nonsmokers enjoy going to bars. I guarantee your local bar will not suffer any loss of business; it might see its business increase.
If I chooose to listen to loud music and drink alcohol and have unprotected sex, it may hurt me, but it doesn't hurt you. When you smoke in public, you put everyone around you at risk.
