Exactly! I once saw a comedian who was clowning about that and he said something to the affect of.. Why are black people considered colored?? It's white people that turn red, when they're embraced, green when they are sick, blue when they choke.. lol... anyways that was the general drift... haha
Have a great one!

I hear what you are saying, but the only race that I even know that is called colored is black. I don't believe I have ever heard of an Asian or Hispanic being referred to as colored.
The only place that I know the word "colored" is mostly used is in the south. I don't even prefer to be called colored, just call me black.
Yes white is a color but why should we call anyone colored to begin with. Just call them as see them. Light skin, fair skinned, dark skinned, tanned, whatever. The word colored is dumb to describe a race of people. Still doesn't really give you a good indication of what a person looks like, in my opinion.

I'm sure it goes back to the days of slavery. When "white" people thought they were the norm and any one else was wrong (anyone with dark skin) referring to African Americans of that time.
I don't call anyone colored. The only time the color of someone's skin comes up is usually around my children. If they are describing a friend they will say she has brown skin, or my youngest will ask why someone has brown skin and so on.

Because lots of people are ignorant and they just never really thought much about caucasians. A black woman at a job-finding facility had told me I didn't have a color, and I was offended by that and thought she was a complete idiot not to recognize other races. Like a girl on here said - "The world is a bag of M&M's!" lol

Because white is like an absense of color ex: albino absense of color. Yes, it is a color, and no white people are not colorless. Black people , the term I still use because many black people have never seen Africa, therefore, to me they are not African American. (Not used to offend, just my thoughts) their skin has more color , therefore the term colored (which was used years ago, and still used by many seniors) When I tan I am darker than alot of Black people and I love it. The term white to me is like describing a bottle of milk, I certainly am not white.

Don't feel bad. When I was in pre-school, my teacher (who was white) had a sundburn, and I thought since she was so red from it,she was colored. This was obviously someone's way to make black people feel bad when the phrase was first used, I don't think older Black people mind it, but it seems to bother younger Blacks for some reason. (By the way I am Black). Somebody is always going to try to make something negative, so dont' sweat it.

I think it is like that cuz long ago "civilized white people" seen people who looked different and stuck them with "labels" that unfortunately too many people still use. People come in many shapes and colors, and there is beauty to be found in all of them.
ps I was not offended, maybe some others could not understand your point and were offended by their own ignorance.

Well i agree with you and i think it's pathetic when people used to have (Or if they still have signs) that says "No colors allowed". I feel that it's pathetic and i feel that they needed to open their eyes. The world is full of colors and white is a color too. I think anyone who thinks white isn't a color should buy a box of crayon and look for white, because it's there and it's a color!

Unfortunetly, it is from our ancestors....and many of the older generations still refer to is as such....I think many people now-a-days, of the younger generations do not use this terminology. Although, what is correct? Saying African-American is fine in a more formal setting, but "black" and "white" are just the street lingo. Doesn't bother me to call me white, why would it bother you to be called black? I do not take it offensive and would use those terms in offensive manners. You and I bother know there are words that people can use for ALL races that they are purposely using in offensive means.....that's when you and I can get upset about it. That's just my opinion of course.

I agree with you fully!! I am a wonderful shade of elmers glue white on the bottom, and olive tan up top. I don't even let my kids look at colors of people (My step daughter is indian, my daughter irish and my son your basic baby white/pink) when we draw family picture Dad is green, Mom is pink, Sisters are a meddley of color and baby brother is baby blue... we don't care about color. It is the person inside that makes you who you are!! Is a brown m&m any diff from green one???
