So on the keyboard it's like this?
1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2 9 0
Or is it just the symbols above the numbers? Maybe if it's just on the keyboard, the computer might still put an @ symbold when you press *...

Sounds like you loaded the default American settings use control panel to change to UK settings.
Easy done mate, most times I do the same lol

Did you receive any error messages when you installed XP like "system does not meet minimum requirements or is not compatible"?
You can try a different keyboard.

you need to go into your control panel and keyboard you need to swap from us to uk. then it will be the same as before
