All the rules the Democrats made the first day in office are worthless when they are sidestepped. The way that pork will be added to spending bills is less open than before. What is everyone else's thoughts?

Line-item veto on spending provisions and a President that has the balls to use it is the solution.

And they were going to cut down on corruption (William Jefferson), bring the gas prices down ($3+ a gallon) and bring home the troops (not by this Christmas)

That's what they said, but now they are going for it in an underhanded way. It seems from some of the answers you are getting that that is ok with those who voted Democrat. No wonder we can't get anything stopped. This country is too divided and the politicians are making good use of the fact.

That is what they said, but I never believed them.
The words "Democrat" and "fiscal responsibility" have never belonged in the same sentence.
Did anybody catch Hillary claiming the responsibility for surpluses in last night's debate? In 1993 and 1994, Billary took the nation so left, he actually added to the deficits until the American people revolted in 1994 and elected a Republican Congress under the leadership of Newt Gingrich and Trent Lott. They passed a Balanced Budget amendment and Clinton signed it into law. Clinton had no interest in balancing the budget, until we took his support away.

All politicians bring home the bacon. The past 6 years have had record amounts of earmarks attached to spending bills. Some much for the claims that republicans are fiscal conservatives.
Better stick to telling bubba that the democrats are going to allow same sex unions, kill babies, and take all of your guns, and take god from our lives. Worked before !

That was just a political charged used against Republicans for consumption by a foolishly credulous Leftist electorate.
Democrats are basically Socialists. Since when do Socialists favour limited governemnt and fiscal responsibility?

If you vote against YOU'RE representative because he/she brought pork back to YOU'RE district, then you'll have a case. Most people whine about everyone else's pork but love their own.

Compared to the Republicans the piggies are much leaner. The problem is they still exist. No politician is going to cut pork. That is how they show the people back home that they are getting jobs and goodies for them.

It's never been possible, and never will be possible.
EVERY politician, at one time or another, sells his or her endorsement of a bill by attaching something else to it.
EVERY ONE.
