New laptop came with Vongo, but it uses up a lot of system resources for a program I don't use. So uninstalled it through add/remove programs. Vongo kept trying to reinstall itself and eventually laptop would not boot up. So had to reinstall Windows Vista but only had the retail version so Vongo is gone but I am missing lots of programs. More importantly Quickplay will not work and my built-in webcam is now useless.
Contacted HP technical help and was told that I would have to purchase recovery CD or jump through several hoops such as downloading quickplay from a non HP website with the warning that if I do and the laptop gets screwed, they are not responsible.
Apparently they are also charging 19.95 for Vongo to be removed.
So basically they installed a program onto a new laptop that messes up the laptop if you uninstall it. And they want you to pay for them to fix it. There are lots of people out there interested in suing Vongo or HP. Can I sue and can it go class-action

It's a very nasty problem which my Uncle has experienced.

You see, Vongo is a program which continuously re- installs itself. Some of the more dumber dont see it. But you obv. did.

You Could sue them, but if I were you, I wouldn't. They are a huge corporation. If you can get more people with you on this then you could.

I wish you very good luck.

I am not a lawyer, but i would think that if you bought this PC directly from HP, and they put Vongo into their build, they are liable. I do't see how they can charge $20 to remove unnecessary software (it is not part of the OS) from the system.

I am also surprised that they make you pay for a recovery CD. Every pc I have ever bought usually includes one, or has a partition on the HD containing one. Certainly I won't buy form HP if they are pulling this crap.

I suggest contacting a lawyer, and giving them the specifics of the case, and getting their opinion.

just beware as when you bought the laptop you were accepting all the bundled software(crap) that they put on it so i dont know were you stand, i dont think you will have any luck sueing them unfortunately, i got a sony vaio recently and it has masses of bundled crap that i dont want but i havent tried to remove any of it yet and when you make your recovery cd or reinstall the os from the recovery console you have to put the crap back onto it, sony wont let you reinstall without putting the crap back on as well although luckily none of it slows it down, you can also go into msconfig and stop the crap from starting up

"Click on Start, Run and type MSCONFIG. Go to the Startup tab and look for isuspm and uncheck it. Click Apply and then OK and restart your PC. When your computer restarts you will get a message that says "System is running using Selective Startup." Just check " Don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when Windows Starts" and click OK."

bypass to start, click on "administration panel", bypass to "upload/get rid of courses" and then seem for Vongo and uninstall it. in case you won't be able to uninstall it, bypass to the folder the place Vongo's records is placed (that's often in My computor>Cchronic> application records/Vongo) and DELETE each and all the ideas. wish that enables!

i doubt that you will get anywhere trying to sue them they will drag it out and you will have to drop your suit since you won't be able to compete financially with them, have you tried taking it to a repair shop they should be able to solve your problems if they are any good
