Yes, the lack of appreciation of the great years of F1 gets right up my nose. Today the cars and drivers are so similar and there is so much technology that there isn't much in the way of driving, it's more like flying on autopilot. They say that F1 is physically demanding, but what about the days of manual gearchanges when you had to do over 25 changes in a single lap at Monaco? That's about 2000 in the whole race...try doing that in your manual/stick road car and see how tiring it is (with the A/C off in the middle of the summer while wearing your winter coat, if you want the full Monaco effect)...and that's before you actually start thinking about driving...
And if anyone who doesn't remember the 80s wants to see how good true greats like Piquet and Senna were, check the link below. Jackie Stewart (in one of the rare instances where he praised a driver who had already accomplished something) likened this move to looping the loop in a jumbo jet. You just don't see drivers even trying stuff like this anymore.
Sorry, had to split the address of the link, use your common sense to find the correct address. Yahoo!Answers can be really anal when it comes to linking to Youtube

I have been watching F1 since 1996, and all i can think about is how good it must have been to witness what came before. As someone has already put, the life is being drained from the sport.
Ground Effect's, Turbos, v10's/v12's, Slick tires, Active Suspension, 6 Wheel Tyrells, Two Way Telemetry, The list goes on and on.
So, some of them might have been a bit dangerous, and would not work combined. But to scrap all of them was taking the p*ss.
It's not Formula 1 any more.

I can see what you're saying but the trouble is that all the drivers are pretty much just boring pilots. They would be more exciting off the road but now I can imagine them going into a small box between races.
Kimi is different, before this season started he was racing Skidoos but he's forth now. You have to balance excellence with excitement.
I have always been a Schumi fan but Irvine was more fun, Hamilton will be a great driver but Hunt would get laid four hours before a race.

I grew up watching Mansell, Hill, Prost, Senna and the starting out of Schumacher. Might find not everyone on the site is old enough to remember back from that. All I know about racing more than 17 years ago is what i have read in books.

It would appear the majority of people who post and answer Formula One-related questions in Yahoo Answers are neophytes, many from countries with little or no exposure to the sport until relatively recently. They seem quite ignorant of anything to do with racing before the early/mid 90's.
I think those of us who saw drivers such as Jim Clark, Jackie Ickx, Bruce McLaren, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham and Jackie Stewart are in the minority here and are often shouted down by, as you suggest, the inane and mindless chatter about Michael Schumacher et al.
Down off the soapbox. :-D
Att: val f1 nutter. The Christian Fittipaldi accident happened at the 1993 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Coming out of the Parabolica on the final lap, Fittipaldi, intent on beating out Pierluigi Martini for seventh place, clipped the right rear wheel of his Minardi team-mate's car and launched himself into a backflip at around 180 mph. The car landed on its wheels and Fittipaldi was classified eight

Absolutely. Maybe we could petition yahoo for a separate question category for the gregnirs, the rosbifs, the threeputts and the valf1nutters. Save the real F1 fans from the dj dons of this world...

There is a whole slew of answers here complaining about the modern F1 Era. So start asking old questions......
You dont need your own forum for "real F1 fans". Start by asking your questions. People will answer.

perhaps they are too young to remember the greats, like Hill, Emerson, Hunt etc. i always remember these races being on as a child, but i really got into F1 in the Mansell, Senna, Prost era. here's a question, does anyone remember christian Fitipaldi doing a full head over heels somersault in his car just before the chequered flag and the headline the next day reading Flipipaldi?

I've been following F1 since 1965. Jim Clark's 2nd WDC.
It's been incredibly boring by comparison, since 1990.
