I first got my period when I was about 11 and a half, and I just turned 13 in April. What would be the best age to start using them, and what brand?

If you have periods, then they are perfectly ok to use. They're all basically alike; just choose the brand that has features you like - applicator, wipes, or whatever, and try it out. If you didn't get a good one the first time, there's no law that says you can't try another one! You might want to try the smaller "teen" versions; if you are just 13, then you are still growing a bit, and your reproductive tract may still be a bit short to comfortably accomodate the full-sized version. Obviously, if you have a very heavy flow, then you're going to need to go with the kinds of tampons designed to deal with a greater flow.

In short, try several types, until you find the one that works for YOU. You might consider checking on web sites to see if manufacturers offer samples, too. That way you won't end up with six boxes of tampons of which you only like one variety!

When your body is ready, Tampons sometimes hurt when you first use them plus you have to make sure to change them often so you dont get toxic shock syndrome. If you really decide your ready and want to try the best kind to try at first would be one that is for teens or light with a plastic applicator, Make sure to read all directions before inserting
Good Luck and even if your a little embarrased your mom is a good source of information on this kind of thing, if not your mom then maybe grandma, Aunt, Sister or trusted older woman :)

You can start using tampons for your frist period if you like, it just depends how convenient and easy you find them to use.

I'd recommend applicator tampons, perhaps tampax 'mini' tampons (which are the same absorbency as regular tampax, but slightly slimmer, which are perfect for first-time users). And read all the instructions and whatnot, they're very comprehensive, and have diagrams, even!

I started using tampons at 13 too :]

good luck!

You can use them at whatever age you want.
If you feel you are ready then try it.....
It will make your life alot easier, especially with summer coming.

Brands differ. I use OB but I know alot of women have an issue with NOT using an Applicator.
Regardless of the brand get ones that say "Slim" or "Junior"
These will be easier to insert until you are more used to it....

Take your time and good luck.

If you are old enough to menstruate you are old enough to use tampons. Try Tampax Pearl. Most of the major brands are fine. You can try a few different brands to see which you prefer.

Its never too early to start wearing tampons. It will be the best thing you will ever do...SO much better than wearing diapers, uh, I mean, "pads."

I'd start with any tampon with a plastic applicator like Tampax Pearl or Playtex.

Good luck!

you can safely use a tampon the day you start menstruating, just be sure to get the smaller size so it is comfortable to insert, and use a light days pad in case there is a bit of leakage, never use a tampon for more than two hours.
