I just purchased a brand new XPS dell laptop computer, 2.16 Ghz intel core duo w/ 2 gig RAM, 256MB vid card and windows Vista pre-installed, and I'd have to say I'm a little upset with the speed at which my computer runs. My games are running at a lower FPS than on my old desktop (with XP), and my internet even seems to run slower than my old comp. Is there anything I can do to increase efficiency (short of buying new peripherals), or tweaks available for Vista? I heard something about turning off windows Aero might increase efficiency?? Any help would be appreciated.

Windows Vista isn't built for speed. Turning off all of the visual effects will help to improve performance. Turn UAC off. Use VistaAeroSwitch for ease:

Tweak the indexing settings:

Look at "ReadyBoost":

Turn off Aero and the sidebar and any other software that you don't have to have running. Vista uses about double the amount of resources XP did. and games on a laptop will never play as well as a desktop.

Vista = slow

There's not much that you can do about it...Vista is a hardware hog. Install XP :-)
