The Hybrid is designed to run primarily on Gasoline, such as starting from a stop or running up a steep hill, using the electric motor as an assistant to the gasoline engine.
The engine will only run on Electric mode in the 2006 and later models and then only when the conditions are just right.
The Hybrid WILL consume gasoline only in much smaller amounts then a full gas engine.
The Engine on the 2006 and later models is 110 HP with a 15 HP electric engine.
Previous models have a 93hp gasoline engine with a 15 hp electric engine.
These electric engines are designed to give you a boost when the Gasoline engine needs some help but not at the expense of using more gasoline.
For the everyday user these engines should save between 10% and 15% of your average fuel bill.
Hope this is helpful

in case you have been paying for the Hybrid over an get admission to point Civic then it may take you ten years to "come again" the money you invested over a uncomplicated Civic. In different words uncomplicated transportation to and from homestead and artwork could justify the backside Civic because of the fact the miles pushed according to day/week/month/twelve months could be small. If this may well be a pass everywhere and do each and every thing want and your miles according to twelve months pushed are 12K plus and you may desire to have all of those greater advantageous widgets, then you definately might desire to justify the Hybrid over the Civic with the same widgets minus the Hybrid battery technologies. i could purchase an get admission to point Civic and lease the Hybrid for long journeys. you may desire to purchase a hand held GPS for little money and you are going to be able to upload a whale tail (spoiler) for little or no besides at a custom save or do it your self. stable luck!

It's called a hybrid because it does NOT run just on electricity, it uses battery power for coasting, for example, but still requires gas to accelerate. The electric part of it will increase gas mileage significantly, but it is still using gas every mile.

As you answered already, they are gas powered with electric motor assitance. As a result, the mpg rating is much better in city driving there is little if any at highway speeds.

They run on gas, and electricity.
They make there own power by using a generator on the wheel,.
Lots of batteries, and very expensive to replace.

Runs on gasoline and electric... The gasoline engine recharges the electric motor when cruising along on highways, and it recharges it during braking.
