Regardless of what you ride, and this goes for everyone out there, having a superiority complex about your brand of bike only makes you look like a poser jackass. A "real" bike enthusiast appreciates all bikes for what they are. End of story.

My HD is a 2006 softail, I took it to Harley for the second oil change at 5000 miles and it had developed a transmission leak. It was under warranty, so it did not cost anything, the mechanic said....It's a Harley.....All Harley leak or develope leaks over time. I think that's true for any bike though. I love the bike, and knew this when I bought it, that's why I have a 3 year extended warranty with unlimited mileage. Most of the Police here in my area ride them and say I will use the warranty to it's fullest, but they love the bikes also. I think it's important to keep the original side plates and stay away from the after market ones that are high polished. They attract more heat and sometimes are not fitted as well as the factory ones. All are aluminum and that also poses a problem, it expands, just a factor with it.

Wow! It's all about personal preference. A lot of Americans purchase Japanese bikes and a lot of Asians purchase American bikes, and vice versa. I'm sure everyone has their reasons. Whether it be gas mileage, comfort, performance, price or anything. Anything and everything can last as long with proper care. It doesn't matter how much an oil change is either. Why do some people only buy Sony or Samsung TV's? Why? Someone may like them more than other brands or maybe it's just for the style or something. Some people are Sunday riders and some people are daily riders. Aren't we all riders alike? Can't we all just get along?

Chance your perspective people! The feel of a Harley cannot be faked or replaced. I own a Jap bike, a Triumph, an two Harleys( 1949 Panhead& 1973 Ironhead ) I enjoy the Harleys because I can bust it down put a custom paint job check all necessary issues and put it back to gether in two days. This is a lot of fun. Most riders of other brands just don't enjoy doing this very much, to much stuff to deal with.

I think I'm getting nauseas, shaft drive? Have you ever been in a place like rottencrotch North Dakota and tried to get a part for a yamaha drive shaft? Have you ever tried to customize a bike with a drive shaft? How many Harley owners do you know that bring their bike to a shop to change oil? Harley Oil? I use Mobile 1 V twin and 75/140 Royal purple in the tranny. When I see a 1938 Yamaha on the road I may think about them different, when a jap bike gets 10 years old do most folks even think about rebuilding one? and if you do where will you find parts? Just a few questions back.

Were do you begin answering that question. One thing comes to mind. In the 70's,in California, they tried jaap bikes and found they needed 10 times the repairs and lasted 1/10 the time of a Harley, not to mention what happens when you have to lay a jaap bike down in a emergency. They went back to Harley's,were they put 100000 miles on them before selling to the public were the public will ride them for the next 25 years.

First of all i am not sure that you actually want an answer to your question. If its just a rant, then you certainly have every right to do so.
Harley people feel that there is a special experience in owning that brand. they feel its related to the mystique that has been developed over the years for HD.
Certainly they have done a lot of work in this country to promote motorcycles and safety and education.
My rule is love what you ride and ride what you love.
personally i ride a Triumph Rocket III because I love the power that is not available on any other bike and I love the uniqueness.
So I guess the answer is that HD is like a club. Th ye like it and that's great. To most people, motorcycles are more than just transportation so ride what you love dude

Well you don't have to take off your Exhaust to change the oil on a Harley and the last time i changed the oil on mine it was $56.97 and that was for 4 qrts. Synthetic HD oil after market filter and did it myself in 20 Min. Harley built approximately 1000 shaft drive units in 1942 for the Army, designated XA (experimental Army). It was thought the shaft drive would hold up much better the sands of Africa. But the Army Canned the idea . Ive had no problems with my HD and theres alot to be said about the Pride in owning an American made Motorcycle ... and if i had to Explain that you wouldn't Understand.. besides most of the HD owners I know Dont "Boost" we just know ...

Right on, Ride on. My oil changes only go about 25 bucks too. I've heard the V-stars are good bikes, even know a couple owners. Don't mean nothin'. Their parts cost as much, or more, than mine. Aren't those the ones where you have to take off the exhaust for an oil change? Or was that Honda? (I forget)
Ever notice who talks about Harleys? It's not the owners.

look in the classified section of any newspaper. any Harley 10yrs old or older can be sold for more than you paid for it when it was new. then look at the price for 10 year old Yamaha's & wake up !their disposable consumer goods! ment to be used a few years and thrown away. yamahas are good bikes I bought a new one in 78 & another one (a virago) in 82, I made the mistake of keeping that one 10 years. I sold it for $500 because parts were totaly unavailable. I now ride an 82 Harley that was made with Italian wheels German pistons Japanese carb & front forks etc. but I upgrade it every couple of years with parts from numerous catalogs or from any of the local parts shops. I can easily upgrade to 140 horsepower or more if I chose to do so. its currently at 92h. p. & gets 49 mpg. I intend to ride it the rest of my life. mabe when you get a few more years on you you will begin to understand kid.
