Cars burn fuel. Fuel can be gasoline or diesel. (These fuels are hydrogen and carbon compounds called hydrocarbons, or Oil)
Burning fuel uses oxygen which combines with the carbon in the fuel to make carbon dioxide. A dangerous gas which is invisible like air.
It also burns the Hydrogen making a bit of water. That is the white steam you see coming from the tailpipe on a cold day.

Any time fossil fuels like gasoline or heating oil are burned, the end products are carbon dioxide and water, in addition to the energy that is produced. This is because the fossil fuels are the remains of plants that photosynthesized. That is, they combined water and carbon dioxide using energy from the sun to make food.

Gasoline and diesel fuel are made of hydro-carbon chains, basically hydrogen and carbon, and some other trace elements. When burned with oxygen, you get CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O (water) and energy in the form of heat.
