Look at Star Wars. Even the REAL evil empire had to build a second death star. Go Pirates!

I completely agree with you. I'm also a die hard fan.
Everytime I walk into Yankee Stadium, I get this exciting feeling in my stomach that just spreads a huge smile across my face. It's like going to Disney and seeing Cinderella's Castle for the first time.
I don't think they should build a new stadium. It will be like a major part of the Yankees is missing.
Now I can see why they are re-building Shea Stadium. That place is WAY past it's time.

Top Six Reasons Yankee Stadium Is Being Replaced
6. Need more room for 27th, 28th, ..., and 50th championship flagpoles.
5. Ruth curse, since transferred from Red Sox, will not follow to the new yard (they hope).
4. New park will have fences that imperceptibly slide in during the home half of the inning.
3. Derek's contract has little-known "must move to The House That Jeter Built" clause mandating switch by 2011.
2. New favorite thing for Yankees fans to razz Red Sox fans about -- "how's dat oldest park in da big leagues workin' out for youse?"
1. Skyboxes == $money!
All things pass.

Yankees Stadium is a New York staple so I'm not exactly sure about this answer either. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they think a new stadium will spur new development in the neighborhood around the new stadium, more so than there is right now. I'm sure they'll also come up with other gimmicks and more entertainment to add to the Yanks' revenue stream and support higher payrolls of the future...but yes, it'll be a shame to see the current one go and I agree with you, it's not necessary.

I love the Yankees, too!!! Even my sons do as well. I want to make a pilgrimage to the stadium before they move over to the new one. I wish they would keep the one they are in now and have been playing in forever.

im a jays fan and i read about the new stadium being built; i think the old one has a lot of history to it so i wouldnt want such a stadium to be brought down but the newer one is supoosed to be really cool expecially cuz it cost 1.3 billion dollars; and our rogers centre cost 500 million....in those days. So your new stadium should be something like ours and i think rogers is a pretty cool stadium.

I hated to see the Celtics leave the Boston Garden.I guess sometimes you need to move on.The ghosts of Yankee Stadium will probably visit the new place.

Because for the most part, the Stadium doesn't meet safety requirements for the city of New York

they arent tearing it down. they r making it into a museum (so ive heard)
and yes, the stadium is falling apart. its old and decrepid, despite all of its history
its a better value to the organization to build a new one rather than refurbish the old one several times
