My father has never seen me have a cigarette let alone a beer. lol He will be living with me for a month. I am not used to ot being able to spark up. Should I just give in? I know the correct answer is to quit. Am I being silly not smoking in front of my parents?

My dad smokes as well. He would not smell it one me. I smoke in front of my sister and cousins when they are smoking. None of our parents know we smoke. I don't know if its a respect issue or just none of us are ready to face the fact we are killing ourselves.

Your 28, if you want to smoke, drink, have sex. Go right on ahead, your 28, tell your father you smoke, if he's going to be living with you he's going to find out one way or another.

Depends on how you were raised, if you were raised with the belief that it's a horrible thing and you should never do it and your going to hell if you do. Well then i would say your not being silly, your trying to keep a fight from happening in your home.
If that isn't the case, then be up front with them. Say hey i smoke. I know this is something i should quit, but it's my choice to not. But out of respect for you, even in my own home i'll smoke out side if you'd like.
Give them the option for you to step out, not everyone likes to smell like an ashtray, none the less breath on, and when it's in a house thats exactly what happends.

As a parent, I will let you know a little secret. Your father probably knows that you smoke. Smoking is almost impossible to hide from a non-smoker, as is drinking alcohol. My 18 year old daughter started smoking, her older sister told on her (HAHA) but it was obvious when I saw her in person. A non-smoker can detect the odor in your clothing, your hair and your breathe. Unless you are enclosing yourself in plastic or showering/washing your clothes before you return home, it is VERY obvious. Be an adult, don't be scared. Just fess up. Be respectful and smoke outdoors so you won't offend your dad's senses. I am sure he trusts you as an adult and wants to deal with you on that ADULT level. GOOD LUCK!!!

first off your right you should quit but if you don't want to dont! i smoked for 14 years and my lungs are just fine Thank god that's why i quit! 8 months now!! Yipppy!!! Yes i have cheated a few times but i just don't want to smoke anymore.. and untill you have the true desire to stop you won't!
it wasn't until i was 21 before i would smoke infront of my mom... oh yeah she new i smoked too!
somethings that i found out i was secretly doing for my self! smoking to me was more attractive and more appealing for me to sneak and do it! sort of let me feel like i'm doing something bad and i'm getting away with it!
to that made smoking exciting!
I finally broke down and smoked infront of my mom! she smoked too but it was sooo hard! almost childish hard to do..
there is nothing wrong with being a closet smoker...
so your choices are to smoke infront of your dad or go and hide...
Try hiding it ... but if you get busted play it off like damn no i got to quit there is no secret anymore! why did you have to caugh me smoking dad! I don't want you to know! no there is no excitment in it! and just play it off!
that way your only lieing to a degree!

It's silly because you're an adult. You no longer have to answer to your parents. If you are that bothered by it, quit.
I would at least smoke outside though so he doesn't have to breathe in the smoke.

I started when I was 19 and I hid it from my Mom for about 6 months.Then I got caught because of my boyfriends big mouth.Lets just say she would have rather heard it from me. It got me to thinking though, I'm an adult paying my own bills so why am I acting like a little kid.

yes you are being very silly you should smoke in front of them or dont smoke at all so let them know you have a problem at least.

Lot's of people smoke. It's not a good habit and you should quit, but you're a grown up. Light up in your own home if you want to.

Tell your parents that you do smoke, and maybe while your father is there he could help you quit. Family can be an excellent resource. They will accept you!

Well you're 28, if he can't handle it, just tell him to find someplace else to stay for a month. That should keep him quiet. Mind you he's staying at YOUR house, the other way around.
