I never counted bodies, but I was there at the time. It sure was not pleasant to see. I don't question the six million, but can't verify it either.

Some say that it didn`t happen altogether. Does that mean they are right? NO!
Most of Europe was occupied by Nazi Germany at that time, and they took jewish people from all occupied countries to put them in concentration camps.
Some were gassed, others just shot, or died from no food/water, or because of 'medical experiments' (think Mengele).
However, the Nazi`s did not stop with the jewish people. They targeted any non-arian people, homosexual people, gypsys, handicapped, basically anyone who didn`t fit in their picture of "the perfect person".
They are also the cause of the death of over 20 million russians, and God only knows how many others.
So 6 million is indeed not correct. It is much, much more :|
As some have said, your 'source' should visit Auschwitz, or a holocaust museum. Better first visit a museum in the US. Denying the holocaust is a crime in many european countries.
Rightfully so, imho.
Have your source check US army footage - and tell the veterans they lied. See how they react.

I don't think there is too much in the argument that the deaths did not occur in the Nazi oncentration camps. There is too much in the way of evidence - photographic as well as first-hand testimony from both sides, as well as the soldiers that liberated them.
It is therefore largely academic whether traces of the poison used were found in the walls and, as this is one of David Irving's assertions, I would suggest that you do not place too much trust in the statement without further research anyway.
It was not just the Jewish population of Germany that were sent to the death camps. Jews from all the occupied countries were sent there, as were other ethnics.
I don't know where you got your figures from, but the generally accepted figure for the death toll in the camps is nearly 6 million. The Nuremberg trial indictment put the figure at 5.7 million.

Here are some interesting statistics about WW11 fatalities: Even though this is not what the question is asking, the point is that a number of nations suffered heavy casualties. These stats from Reuters shows how skewed these were. The first column is the countries population at that time. The second column is the number of fatalities, and the third is the percentage fatalities by population.
Belgium 8,300,000 20,000 0.24%
Bulgaria 6,300,000 82,000 1.30%
Czechoslovakia 10,300,000 215,000 2.09%
Denmark 3,800,000 1,000 0.03%
Finland 3,800,000 93,300 2.46%
France 42,000,000 592,000 1.41%
Austria/Germany 78,000,000 5,600,000 7.18%
Greece 7,000,000 433,000 6.19%
Hungary 10,000,000 436,000 4.36%
Italy 43,800,000 286,900 0.66%
Netherlands 8,700,000 163,700 1.88%
Norway 2,900,000 5,800 0.20%
Poland 34,800,000 5,410,000 15.55%
Romania 19,600,000 891,000 4.55%
UK 47,500,000 366,400 0.77%
USSR 194,100,000 17,700,000 9.12%
Yugoslavia 15,400,000 1,700,000 11.04%
Its obvious that the number of fatalities were huge, with a number of countries suffering a loss equal to (or greater in the case of the USSR) the number of Jews killed. The difference, it could be argued, is that at least they went out "with their boots on" rather than suffering the humiliation of a gas chamber. The point is though, that we have focused so intensely on the decimation of the Jews, that we have lost sight of the face that many nations suffered, some disproportionately, and yet this fact is largely unknown.

Yeah, its six million.
They're still uncovering mass graves. A couple of months ago, they dug up an old Germany bunker and opened the doors...
Thousads upon thousands of bodies stacked up on eachother. And they deny the holocaust? How about you climb in there with them?
"Another source says there weren't eve that many jews in Germany at the time".
That source is a complete MORON. Where do you think they got the Jews from? Germany?? No...
Think about it... A child could easily find the answer, your "source" is a dunce. Because with the exception of Britain...
THEY OCCUPIED THE WHOLE OF EUROPE. THERE WEREN'T MANY JEWS IN GERMANY, BUT HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE ENTIRE CONTINENT WAS CONQUERED AND THE JEWS WERE GASSED.
I laugh at that idiot "source" who must have around a grade three education.

Sometimes in life we are faced with numbers too large to comprehend. Such is the case regarding the slaughter of European Jews in Europe. Please visit this site for the numbers you seek and other questions you may have about the holocaust. http://www.holocaustchronicle.org/HolocaustAppendices.html
Please remember Jews were taken to the extermination camps from as far away as Greece in rail cars where men, women and children stood in the heat of summer and cold of winter to a place unknown to them. They had neither food nor water. A bucket passed around was their toilet.
Google Babi Yar for the shooting of over 33 000. Research the Einsatzgruppen, special killing units set up to kill Jews. Their work was Babi Yar.
http://www.nizkor.org/hweb/orgs/german/einsatzgruppen/esg/
documents/introduction.html
When liberators were approaching, the inmates were force marched across Germany and Poland. No real destination in mind. So many died during these marches in rags and no shoes during the winter.
Some commanders could not evacuate their camps so they loaded the prisoners back onto the trains. The floors of the cattle cars several inches deep in lye. When the men, women and children began to sweat and urinate, the water from their bodies dripped onto the lye and inturn slowly reacted and suffocated them. When you see fillms of train cars opened with the dead stacked 8 high, that is what happened to them.
The holocaust is indeed real. But so difficult to imagine such inhumanity to man. Sir Martin Gilbert, a noted author wrote a magnificant book called the holocaust journey about his treck across Europe to the death camps. It is a diary of historical anti semitism across Europe from the middle ages to the nazi era. He has written many books on the Holocaust and I encourage you to visit his site and peruse his many titles on the Holocaust. http://www.martingilbert.com/ Click The Books and then Holocaust.
Many of your questions will be answered by visiting these sites. Let your own knowledge be your guide.

6 million or more. Why is it so important to know the number?
If it happened 1,000 it would still be an atrocity.
The Jews and other people murdered by Germany (Nazi's) came from all over Europe. I detect a note of disbelief that this atrocity did not happen. I can assure you it did.

The numbers do vary but it is generally accepted that 6 million European Jews were exterminated.
By the time you add in the mentally ill, Slav's, Poles, Gypsies (Roma), Russian POW's and others who didn't meet Hitler's "Aryan Master Race" the figure of 12 million springs to mind.
Remember that not all the victims went through the dearth camps. Thousands were made to dig ditches and were then shot and buried, all over Europe.

It wasn't just the Jews in Germany. There were ones from the countries they over ran too. Austria was one of those countries and I think Yugoslavia too. They were not poisoned they were not fed so some died from starvation and others were shot or sent to the gas chambers where the gas killed them.
