young people must start out their lives in severe debt from student loans because they wanted an education?...i dont think making it completely public would help for many reasons. so what are your thoughts on a possible solution..how can we get costs for college lowered. i know the universities get government help, so why dont they lower tuition?

Hey, it's not just the young people starting out, it's also the parents of the young people getting hammered.
Nothing like being a George Washington University parent and you see some punk wearing a t-shirt that says
"COLLEGE IS NOTHING MORE THAN A $40,000 A YEAR PARTY" ( which has nothing to do with your question) except that it rubbed a little more salt into now destitute parents wound.

Most young people have a lesser expensive option by attending a school closer to home. This would cut down on costs considerably, the other option is to pursue a scholarship, thousands of which go unclaimed every year. If a scholarship isn't an option and you don't qualify for one of many grants to underpriveledged youth planning on college, then maybe you shouldn't go.

YES IN ADULTHOOD! I'm just starting my third year of college within the UC system, and already have almost $40,000 in college debt. At this point, the idea of going to graduate school feels completely out of reach. With interests rates rising just as fast as tuition, it seems as though a higher education is growing higher out of reach. Please do your part to part to help encourage students to continue to higher education by lowering the cost of obtaining it.

I guess Edwards would be your guy, he seems to think that a College Education is a RIGHT, though for the life of me I can't find it in the Constitution. I am sure eventually they will find it or invent it like they did the right to an abortion, so just hold on you may get what you want. I for one think that it is okay to work for that education, even if it means paying off student loans, you'll appreciate it much more in the long run.

The concept is that a student will take loans to get an education, that will get him or her a job with sufficient to pay the loans.
For example, I took student loans to fund law school. I have a job that lets me pay back the loan and still provides a higher income than the job I left to go to law school. See how that works?

I'm sorry but I don't feel sorry for kids in debt over student loans. If you are old enoough to enter the adult world you are old enough to be responsible for your debts. I've tried to warn young people about student loans and they blow me off. I don't think they will lower rates thats why a lot of kids go to Techs. Otherwise go for every grant you can get and a job.

This is an extreme socialist solution that you are offering up. It is not an American RIGHT to attend college. It is a CHOICE!
