Edwards is still significantly behind Hillary and Obama in the Democratic nomination polls, and I'm wondering why more people aren't supporting him.

Personally I like him because he has the most concrete plans to deal with global warming, Iraq, health care, etc. He also has the best chance to beat the Republican candidate head-to-head, based on recent polls.

So for those who don't support Edwards, what problems do you have with him? Please serious answers and not meaningless issues like his haircut.

Chazman - terrible answer. Edwards admitted he was wrong to vote for the Iraq War (it's Hillary who won't admit it). Also Edwards' wife told him to continue campaigning.

Get your facts straight before slandering someone.

I think that a lot of people choose one horse, as it were, and hope to ride it to the end of the trip. I personally don't think it's wise to get so wrapped up in the idea of one particular candidate at this early stage of the race, because there are SO many unknowns, and people tend to start cutting down other candidates to make "their guy" (or gal) look better.

I prefer to pay attention to each of them over the course of time, listen to their stances, and then see which ones fit my ideals best. So far in this race, I've given money to three candidates, some who need it more than others: Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson, and John Edwards.

I'm not ashamed of any of them, and I think the insults hurled at them (in particular John, and to a lesser extent Dennis) are insubstantial piffle, and stem more from their uncomfortability with the fact that these guys know the score, and tell it like it is.

And to anyone jumping on him for continuing to run while his wife continues to fight a manageable cancer that she will have the rest of her life...have you ever been around someone with cancer? The worst thing for them to do is drop out of their regular life and treat their illness as the only thing in the world. I was caregiver to one of my best friends while he spent his last 3 years fighting it, and not one of his doctors or psychologists would support your crackpot theory that staying home and brooding over sickness is the best way to beat cancer.

I actually like Edwards best among the Dems, but I do have a couple reservations. Global warming is a fear based issue that I firmly believe the Democrats should drop if they know what's good for them- that's a republican trick. What we need is hope, not fear.

Aside from that, I'm not impressed with any of the healthcare plans. They all include the same insurance companies that are driving up the costs by selling health insurance to individuals, and malpractice insurance to doctors. They're burning the candle at both ends. If you want to bring down the cost of healthcare in this country, we need to obliterate the health insurance industry- the free market will take care of the rest.

I think that Edwards would make a good president. Democrats from the south have a pretty good record of winning presidential elections.
When my mother had cancer, I am happy that she went right on doing what she had been doing all her life. I think anyone who tries to make an issue out of Edwards running after his wife was diagnosed with cancer, just has not been there and is unsympathetic to those of us who have.

I adore John Edwards. I think he is behind in the polls because he hasn't garnished the type of media attention that Clinton and Obama have. He's currently not serving in office so he doesn't have his voting record to get attention. Also, he hasn't raised the money that the other two have.

My only problem w/ an Edwards candidacy is he doesn't really have a lot of "experience" (and i say experience in the way the media has framed it). Also, his voting record when he was a senator came at a time when the national scene was pretty tumultuous for democrats and his short record could be easily dissected. (not that a short history is a bad thing) just some things to think about.

Edwards is just as bad as Hillary & Obama. He's a socialsit and has no experience. Edwards claims to fight FOR the poor but he gets a $400 hair cut and lives in a multi-million dollar home that was earned fighting against the poor!

He is a hypocrite in this area since he made MILLIONS as a plantiff's attorney. He fought against the average American that had been wronged.

I also think it's uncaring to be running at all. I saw an interview with his wife. She looked EXAUSTED and weak! Elizabeth is sick and will die! But, he wants to be president. Shouldn't he be taking care of his business at home?

Actually, when I listen to a little of the "debate" last night, all the dems sounded exactly the same, except Gravel -he was worse!!!

I hope he gets the nomination. Almost any of the GOP candidates can beat him easily! "Stick a fork in him, he's done!"

He really started off badly. His campaign waged war on Christians. If you missed it, his campaign bloggers called the Virgin Mary a whore, among other things. Then he turns around and says Jesus would be ashamed of how we treat the poor. He is the last person in the world who would possibly know what Jesus thinks.

He claims to be genuinely concerned about poor people, and so concerned was he that he studied the problem at a large multinational investment firm earning a salary of $479,000 for six months of part-time work, but his neighbors who live in the trailer park down the road have never seen him and have never received anything from him. He does not talk to them. But he wants to raise taxes, which will not help the poor whatsoever.

He wants to tell us how to fight global warming and that we should reduce carbon emissions, while flying private jets across the country, driving SUV's all over, and living in massive homes that consume what would be for most people an electric bill for three years in just one month.

He claims he wants to end the war that he voted for. He wants to open the military to gays, the $400 dollar haircut should demonstrate that he spent all that time "studying" the poor, but knows nothing about them or how they live.

The man is an empty suit reciting soundbites and posing for pictures. Edwards is a fool and hypocrite.

well yah, of course he looks good, but that just shows how much he cares about his looks on camera more than anything. i see him as a big joke, you say serious answers only, nothing about his haircuts...but what does that tell you about him? I sat there and watched him on tv one time and him and his little hairdresser was messing with his hair so it would be ABSOLUTELY perfect for the camera! i do NOT want some moron who cares so much of his looks to be our president, thats is insane! he looks very concieted and reminds me of those other morons, al gore and john kerry!

Another thing, his neighbors don't even like him, what does that say about a person, if he cant even get along with his neighbors?? idk, but the more and more i hear or even see little Mr. Edwards, i get more turned off by him!

can't you see he's all an act, all he wants is votes votes and more votes! he will tell you ANYTHING you want to hear just for you to vote for him!

I'm sorry, but edwards will never be the president of this country, and thats fact!

What I don't like about him is that he made millions of dollars off of tort law in North Carolina. Basically, he supported/fought for frivilous law suites that screwed doctors and clinics out of business and thousands of dollars (my Mother included, not directly by Edwards but because insurance rates sky rocketed because of him for clinics).

Aside from that, he claims (for his supporters) that he "understands" what it's like to be "poor" when he really hasn't got a clue. I would say that given his history with the "healthcare" industry, he won't be doing much to support it.

Also, I believe many other canidiates to be equally if not more supportive/determained to make our world more green.

He is an obvious phoney for one thing. He is supported by very socialist organizations, which makes him scary.

Other than he has the personality of a used car sales man, is unable to admit straight out that he backed the president to going to war with Iraq. And that his wife may not have long to live, but he would rather spend what precisious time she has left campaigning for a job he is not qualified for.
