A solution a mixture. The solvent does the dissolving and usually is the larger in volume. The solute is what is dissolved in the solvent.

A solvent can be a gas but usually only if the solute is a gas.

A solvent can be a liquid and the solute can be a gas, liquid, or solid. When both solvent and solute are liquids and are in nearly equal concentration you can debate which is the solute and which is the solvent.

A solvent can be a solid and the solute is usually another solid but can be a liquid or gas.

A solution, at constant temperature and pressure remains homogeneous. If, under constant temperature and pressure, it does not remain homogeneous it was not a solution initially (an example is paint that is suspended after mixing but it falls out of solution with time).

Many times there is a solubility limit. This is the maximum amount of solute the solvent can dissolve at a specified temperature.

Temperature has a major influence on solubility - either increasing or decreasing solubility.

Concentration units for solutions are varied. Common units are Molarity, Molality, Normality, Mole Fraction, % by volulme, % by weight, solute mass / volume.

A SOLUTION is a mixture of a SOLUTE (the substance being dissolved), in a SOLVENT (the liquid doing the dissolving (also called 'the Absorbent')).
Generally, the warmer the solvent the more solute it will dissolve until it becomes 'Saturated'. (However if the solute is a gas, it will leave the solution at higher temp.).

Solution-It is a homogeneous mixture of solute and solvent. In this the particles of solute get into the intra-molecular spaces of the solvent.Light can pass easily through a true solution. At a certain stage no more of solute can be dissolved into the solvent, this solution is called as saturated solution. In gases more of gases can be dissolved in low temperature and in solids or liquids they can be dissolved moreat high temperature.
solute-the substance which is to be dissolved
solvent-the substance in which the solute is dissolved
