I reccomend the SG for Deep Purple and AC DC and some slow songs like live and let die by guns n roses, i wouldn't reccomend it for Stevie Ray Vaughan or Pink Flloyd though. Fender Stratocaster is pretty awesome for Pink Floys and Stevie Ray Vaughan style songs, they are also pretty rockin' and give a nice touch to Deep Purple slow songs, not reccomended for any AC DC songs or most Guns N Roses songs. Gibson Les Paul is amazing, it's hard to go wrong with it, It's decent with AC DC and Pink Floyd, It does wonders with Guns N Roses, there is no better guitar for that job, it still pretty much rocks with Stevie Ray Vaughan too! Fenders and Gibsons are very very different! Gibsons are better with notes or tabs if you are on distortion but you did you mention you would rather not go with distortion. Fenders and pretty good with chords and tabs with no distortion but will work with less songs, if you were a fan of distortion then the Gibson would be pretty perfect for you! The Fender Stratocaster rocks in country, blues and rock and the Gibson is insanely awesome with blues and rock and decent with country. Fender is the best choice by far if you never want to use distortion but Gibson and distortion is guitar heaven so give each a go in the store and keep in mind all that was said here!
