What is your opinion over that??

For me here 's the pro:

Pros: 1) Computer's with low RAM, like say, only 256 MB or below, should use AVG. It hardly slows down pc startup unlike Norton or other commercial anti-viruses.

2) For those who have heard that Avast! is better, well maybe but I find Avast!'s full system scans to be terribly slow. It took me more than an hour to complete a full scan with Avast! On the other hand, AVG only took about 25 minutes and it doesn't use too much RAM during these scans too so I can do something else like web browsing without being slowed down.

3) There's no technical support for this free edition but at least there's a forum. Better than Norton which doesn't even have a forum, right?

4) Has about all the features you'll need in an anti-virus.

5) Super fast updating. Updates are frequent too.

6) Efficient automatic updating (I have Norton on another PC and it's slow to automatically update- if there's any).

7) Here's a nice one, AVG has a feature

Where do these people come from who freely give inaccurate answers. AVG is an excellent product that is free and does a great job.
Norton is a bloated resource hog that is not even Norton anymore...it was bought by Symantec years ago....which has destroyed one of the great names in computing!

You are right at the protection stage. AVG does protect you from viruses and is very light onto your computer. But you can't just do only with it. You must have a firewall too. Zone Alarm can do that for you.
Most people say that Norton is better but I don't think so. Norton is so slow and dull. It is Hard to update, takes time, takes resources. Just waste. Have AVG and have Fun. Let me tell you that you should know, I have right now two browsers and open and at least 15+ sites open, then also I don't experience hang-on while AVG is scanning my computer. that's true! Everybody that says so should try AVG and then would they recognize the power.
As you said, Avast was also developed to work like AVG , but eventually, it failed and worked like Norton-dumb and slow!
I think AVG should be the choice. Why to install and run Norton when you are infected with the virus? Why not be protected earlier by AVG?

It is very difficult to compare, as each has their own strength, but from experience with most of them, Norton and Mcafee always slow down a computer, situation improve with HT, and better with DualCore, but still need a lot of base memory for them to work well.

AVG has a very small foot print, making it one of the fastest to use, that said, I find the software not very good at self repair once its infected or damaged by the newer viruses.

Avats has a much better scan engine, and with the ability to scan from DOS is a major plus, speed on Avast is slower than AVG, but you do get a more powerful scanning engine.

HELL NO! Norton is WAAAYY better at removing viruses and spyware. What does AVG free do when it detects a virus? ...nothing! Besides, Grisoft discontinued the free edition months ago. They're probably doing fake updates to make you believe that the program has some benefit somehow.

Unfortunately, when I build computers and run my own computer systems, I stay away from Norton software. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, just not my preference. I don't use McAfee on any computers either.

Never had any problems. The choice is up to the computer user as to what Fire Wall or Anti Virus software they use.

I have AVG (I have paid-for SoHo on two laptops...same as free, I'm sure, plus I have free Ewido). I'm purdy happy with it. I used to have Norton, and got purdy P.O'ed with their very-expensive idea of support and their peeuuny "knowledge" base.

PC Mag seems to think Norton has cleaned up its act, especially insofar as the recent outbreak of botnets is concerned...

AVG all the way....

Norton suxxes...Scans whenever it wants, Runs whenever it wants, uses as much memory as it wants, takes as long as it wants, blocks whatever programs it wants, updates whenever it wants, costs more than you want, and comes out with new versions whenever it wants (so they can take however much money they wants) ; P
