Zilker Park is fun for kids. Mabey a picnic there. Interspace Caverns are cool and fairly cheap. McKinny Roughs is a hiking place. Any pool is cool. A movie at the Howard Theatre in Taylor, Texas. There is a water park in Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas. That's fairly cheap. Watch bats.

If they like the outdoors McKinney Falls State Park is pretty cool. It has a great visitors center, trails, campsites, playground, pools of water to play in and some waterfalls to look at. There's also the ruins of the homestead of Thomas F Mc Kinney, one of Stephen F. Austin's original 300 colonists.
The Texas State History Museum and the Capital buildings are great too.
