you probably, or could have bought a different modem but with the same chipset. thats one of the main components of the modem. different manufactures build different ones, some manufatures share chipsets and some manufatures reuse through different models.

its a hardwired chip on the modem that contains some instruction sets on how the modem talks.
most cheap chipsets will crash, spend some $$$ and you'll buy a better chipset.

I cannot recall names and chipsets, since I haven't used a 56k modem in 8 years. so sorry.

btw modems suck !!!!

upgrade your serivce instead of your modem.
go broadband.

if you stick with the modem, update its drivers maybe.

When I was using a dial-up isp, they had about 8 different numbers that you could connect to. I noticed that some of the numbers I used, were much faster, than others. Call your isp, and ask them if they have other numbers you can use to connect to the internet..Good Luck..

I assume you have no other options than dial up.

Do you have a choice of ISPs? If so, switch.

If not, don't take NO for an answer. They are obligated to ensure your connection works properly.

Simply switch your ISP and if its available then get yourself a broadband connection. If a landline one is not available then you would have to purchase a wireless modem then.

Are you using a router? if so as that would desire to be undesirable (relatively no longer likely) or the port might have long previous undesirable. The ethernet cable itself could be going too. there is alot of possibilities yet i do no longer think of it has something do do with Win 7 or new ram. this is in basic terms coincidental.

splurge and spend the extra ten bucks and get a decent provider. Dial up always disconnects. Theres nothing to "do" about it, its just going to keep happening.

I have digital internet and it NEVER i mean NEVER disconnects and its always fast.
