well, this is tough to answer. i would say, for cymbols, i would go with meinl, but i love zildjians zil-bel, so either or.
now for the kit, i would go with shine custom drums, expensive and worht the price. now if your talking about the kits that you can buy at a music store without ordering a custom set, i would say gretsch for me. then again, ive only ever had gretsch sets, so.

The one that makes the 55 gallon varieties. They're so handy. You can even store nuclear waste in them. Out of sight, out of mind, I always say.
