Hi,

No need to get a fax machine. You can send and receive faxes using your email account. You just send an email to the fax number@utbox.net and they get it! When you get a fax it comes to your inbox.

I use UTBox, they donate money to Greening Australia to plant trees to reduce carbon.. that is why I chose them!

Not necessarily. You can have VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) where you have it come through your cable internet.

Bottom line, your fax needs to plug into a phone jack, and it needs to think there's a regular phone line. The internet can provide that, through VOIP services like Vonage, or more complicated setups like Skype.

An alternative is Efax. If your fax usage is light, you can get a free receiving account, and then just access your faxes on your computer and print them out if necessary. Or else you can pay a monthly fee and send and receive faxes through your computer.

Don't listen to Britcop Jim. Fax machines may be old, but they are still very cool. Just pop a document in, dial a number, and bam, the person at the other end gets that document in a nice easily readable standard hardcopy. Use them at work all the time.

Fax machine has nothing to do with the internet. Hooks into your home phone line. Been using one like that many, many years. Not sure why you want one though. Email has pretty much made them obsolete. I get about 2 faxes a week anymore in my business and when this fax machine dies I'm going to tell those 2 customers to get email and forget about faxing.

Yes, software Fax programs use your Dial Up Modem card to connect to the phone line, just like a real Fax machine does.

A fax machine is like a telephone. It has nothing to do with your computer. You need a regular phone line to use it. There are fax programs build into most computers but even they need a phone line, not the internet.

You can fax online with your cable Internet. There is no need for any hardware or software. With an Internet fax provider, like MyFax, faxes are sent/received in your email account as attachments. All you need to sign up is Internet access and an email address. For more information go to http://www.myfax.com :)

I don't believe so, but fax machines are practically dead now ever since email came to light. Unless you know of a few good freinds or colleagues at work that own fax machines in their offices/homes, I wouldn't recommend getting a fax machine.

You can fax thru your pc or you can go to most office store and get a regular fax machine but you'll have to have a phone line to use it.

Not neccesarily. If your router is near the computer, it may have a port for a phone-line. Just link the fax to this port and you can use your cable or dsl. But if you don't have access to your router, if the cable just comes out into your room, you'll need a phone line. BUT, if all you do is plug a cable into a port on the wall, there may be a phone jack by it. check it out
