He is a murderous communist despot. He is a totalitarian, militarist and demagogue who has failed to deliver on his promises, violated fundamental human rights, squelched dissent, meddled in the affairs of other Latin American countries, threatened Venezuela's economy and democracy, illegally silenced opponents, and destabilized global oil prices.

He is a democratically elected populist who is slowly moving his nation towards authoritarianism. Like all strong populist movement the power eventually becomes more centralized in order to carry out the wishes of the "people", the old "Vanguard" argument.. Eventually, Chavez will destroy his movement and become a tyrant. It does not help that he is buddy buddy with Iran and claims to be a revolutionary. He has become a great threat to the US and he is using his nations tremendous Oil wealth to influence South America. I find his outspoken rhetoric towars Bush as suspecious, particularily since the Bush Administration's pursuit of high global Oil prices for their buddies in TX have given Chavez Billions and Billions of more dollars than he otherwise would have. Bush is his Best supporter and making his government richer and richer everyday. The same holds true for Iran. Make you say....hmmmmmmmm.

He is a strong man who wants to undo all the damage done to Venezuela and South America by the colonialists - in his lifetime.
Don't believe US media propaganda, Chavez is really very popular in his country, and most of Latin America look up to him as their saviour against Washington's predatory arrogance.
He is very vain, but a good man.
