I accidently did restore system settings problem is now it will not connect to the internet the internet is visiable in the bottom corners says speed and its connected when i plug in the cord but when I go to a webpage says not connected . Also it is cable from comcast (not wireless just regular connection) it was fine it works on my brothers laptop i did reset the modem.
I tried the ipconfig/release and retry no luck when I ping my Ip addy id doesnt recognize it.
-Ethernet is not disabled, I have resetted the modem
-I was told to try system in accessories setting restore no luck
-I have windows xp also I did try unplugging cable and did the repair thing says repaired sucessful no luck still tho
-Called comcast no luck its not broke on there end they said i shouldnt have a 169. ip addy reinstall XP (dont really wanta do however when i try doesnt allow me says cant install older version??)
-I went to HP site reinstalled ethernet drivers it restored my ip addy still no net

I have rebooted the computer, i have restarted the modem and to the moron that said how did i ask this question im at work its for my home computer please serious people only that can really help

looks like you may have to format your hd and reinstall your windows sorry, put your windows disc into the cd drive then switch pc off, turn back on and it should say press any key to boot from disc, press a key and follow instructions for doing a fresh install, make sure you format the partition to clear the hd of any data, it will say press any key to boot from disc again, dont press any keys this time or you will be back to the beginning again, after this is done you will need to install all the drivers, they will be on a seperate disc that you will have got with the windows disc when the pc was new. good luck

If it won't hook up with the internet on a cable connection which says it incredibly is linked, examine it for undercover agent ware, cyber web Explorer connection settings (proxy settings can completely quit it) and likewise examine the C:windowssystem32driversetchosts report, some undercover agent ware provides unfavourable entries to this.

If I’m reading your question correctly, and I’m not sure I am, you accidentally did a system restore.
If this is the case.
Try this, if not sorry for bothering you.
System restore can be undone just go to system restore and choose undo previous.

Hey I had the same problem 2 weeks ago the ONLY way to resolve it is to reboot your computer. make sure the disk is in then turn on your pc and it should let you reboot

Try unpluging your modem from the wall and everything eles. and turn off your computer. both for 30 min.

could be a few things, have you checked your firewall settings? have u rebooted the modem?

when you did ipconfig/release did you also do ipconfig/renew?
also check your dns settings, it should be optain IP address automatically
