How about $6 a month? That's what I pay.

Take a look at T-Mobile Prepaid phone plans. Yes, you have to buy the phone with little or no rebates, but you can buy a 1,000 minutes for $100 that last 1 year. A basic phone will cost you around $50.

I use about 60 minutes a month, so that's about $6 a month. At the end of the year, you just buy more minutes, and any unused minutes carry over for another full year. I did that in March and added $25 worth and that and the minutes I carried over should last me another year.

Even if you didn't carry over any minutes, after the initial purchase of phone and minutes, it works out to about $13 a month.
