All the other stuff came to light after his career was over. SOmetimes players transend the game. Kirby was one of those guys. We was dynamic, a firecracker, a spark plug. He was a fan favorite, across baseball, not just Minny becasue every average joe shmoe could see part of themselves in Kirby.

Mike and Mike on ESPN radio always talk about the "smell test" on a moments reaction, what is the call. Kirby, hall of fame, yes. Donnie Baseball, no.

Edit: Not worthy of the hall by any means. He's not Clemente, I don't care if his career was shortened. Same stats as Mattingly, and there's no way that guy gets in.

Center fielders are harder to come by than first basemen.

Puckett was also much cuter, in a "how did that guy ever excel at baseball?" sort of way.
