Movies, like so many things, are a matter of personal taste and opinion. Only you can decide for yourself which movies are better than others. No one including friends, family or the critics can decide that for you.
There are many factors that affect your opinion of movies. Factors such as the genre of the movie, the stars of the movie and even the mood you are in when you watch the movie. For example, if you were to watch a comedy after returning home from a good friends funeral, you would probably think the movie isn't too funny. But watch the same movie after getting an unexpected bonus from work and the movie suddenly becomes hilarious.
Your opinion is all that counts when deciding which movies are better than others.

Big bucks and CGI do not necessarilly make a great movie,
The Adventures of Pluto Nash ... cost $90 mill but tanked. And it had a funny actor, etc.

It all starts with a good script. Strong, believable characters in a situation that alternately puts them under great stress, and relaxes the tension,
and in which the final conflict is resolved in a nonobvious but realistic and satisfying way.
