Well, we have a HUGE lake and dam and there's a funny (sort of) story that goes with their construction. When the dam was made, two towns had to be vacated and flooded. Now there's a law/rule somewhere that says if, when building a dam, an entire town is lost, the dam is supposed to be named for that town. HOWEVER, the town that was destroyed was Gad, and no one wanted it to be call the Gad Dam, so it's just called the Summersville Dam after the nearest town (and county seat).

My hometown is famous for its hamburgers. There is a restaurant called Whattaburger (not the Whataburger chain). Its been around since the 60's and their burgers are SOOOOO good. They have a campy little restaurant with all sorts of cute and funny little signs and saying posted everywhere.
Also Miss America 1982, Elizabeth Ward, who got decrowned after posing for playboy or hustler, if from my hometown as well

We are famous for a place called Franks Chicken House
it was a strip club that went through a lot of law suits because the town tried to make laws to close them down and then later because it has Russian immigrants as slaves.

Hmmmm...well, until the causeway was built and affected it, it had a river with the world's highest tide, which would come in one gigantic wave.
It's also the home of Magnetic Hill, a natural optical illusion that gives you the impression of rolling uphill with your car in neutral.
