I'm studying this etude, but how come I can't hit the right notes?I've memorized the piece very well, but my fingers are just all screwy. They just have a mind of their own. I've never tried of playing a piece hitting the right notes perfectly. Why is that so? I've memorized the piece quite well. But why do I commit such mistakes? I have to start playing the piece all over again. When my mind says press "re", my finger presses "do"....What do I lack as a violinist? My left fingers are bugging me a lot!!!!

You must have an instructor or director of some sort. Ask them to tape out the fingering positions on the fingerboard. I've never experienced the problem you're having; we may simply be in different areas of talent/knowledge/skill.

Many things can cause to be this way. It could simply be that you are are tired, confused, have a lot on your mind, or you are just not in the mood to play. Have you ever played a piece very similar to the one you are working on now? If so, you might be messing up the notes because you are unintentually playing the other piece. Just keep trying and stay confident!!! Good Luck!!!!

That's why it's an etude. It's harder to play the thing than it is to memorize it. Try playing it very slowly with a metronome.

I'm a pianist though, not a violinist.

lol,,, im not sure of my violinist skills,,, but when the same thing happens on my guitar, i just take that section of the song and play it slower than most of the rest of the song, eventually and gradually speeding that part up when i get it right at that tempo,,,, try getting a metranome and putting it at about 124bpm,,, it should work.
