Consider an event that occurred in your life. Twist the plot, the characters, and the end result to suit your whim as if you had traveled a different road than the one you took.
Use your imagination and let it flow. Take something you know and shape it into a plot that you might have wished to do or not even considered at the time.

Have you ever read "Hills Like White Elephants" or "Cat in the Rain" by Ernest Hemingway? Both of these stories are very short, and both are successful. Reading these may give you some idea of the direction you may want your story to take.
The story should come from you, from your life... something you know well. For a very short story to work, the theme should be something powerful... something you can bring to the surface quickly.
Character development also can be a challenge in this setting... be sure you know your characters intimately before you attempt to create them for your audience. Maybe write a longer story in which you develop (and get to know) the characters first, and then take on the challenge of putting them into a very short story?
Good luck with your story, and Cheers!

Check out the book _Writing Fiction: A Guide to Narrative Craft_ by Janet Burroway: http://www.amazon.com/Writing-Fiction-Guide-Narrative-Craft/dp/0321277368/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-9261312-5612925?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180978948&sr=8-1 .
I would tend to write about myself (though in character), or write from the perspective of a girl like me. I've always found it too difficult to write from a male perspective. It's generally easier to write from a first-person point of view than an omniscient (all-seeing). Write down things that inspire you or details you notice on a little 3 by 5 note pad while you're outside or walking down the street or wandering through the mall, then use these notes to construct a setting. And use imagery and metaphor!, things that appeal to the five senses: tell what things look like, smell like, taste like, feel like, sound like. And READ some short stories. The more you read good writing, the more you'll absorb and the better you'll write.

Wow I are not able to feel how unhelpful a few of these different solutions are. LoL and I'm sorry for you. Marketing possibilities are huge and plentiful in nature, however you are relatively watching into promoting roles. Copywriting is an overly difficult course to damage into since it calls for a powerful portfolio and revel in; it is your proverbial Catch 22 since you are not able to get a well process with out the revel in, and also you are not able to get revel in with out revel in both. You can most commonly take one among 2 methods. The first is to uncover an internship (paid or unpaid) for 2 to 3 months and construct a community within the enterprise for your self. Advertising positions are stuffed from persons who recognize persons who recognize persons. That's most commonly the essential factor approximately it so that you would take a look at writing attractive quilt emails to talents contacts and introduce your self and your targets. The moment process is to use for advertising and marketing assistant positions. I've noticeable many who handiest require a bachelor's measure and minimum paintings revel in. If you are coming proper out of institution or have little or no paintings revel in, that is the path to head, since you'll be able to be ready to satisfy persons that may factor you within the proper path. Working in CORPORATE advertising and marketing might surely enable you to have interaction with advert organizations at a few factor, and those contacts might be ready to get you to no less than talk instantly to the HR at those advert organizations - a tricky feat to achieve in any other case. To sum up, I believe the essential factor to do is to proactively meet persons and develop your community, in any respect indispensable. This is a area centered closely upon persons and relationships, so the more potent yours are, the larger probabilities you'll be able to have. Good good fortune!

I'm developing a book; therefore, I'm aware of the tribulations presented by writing. I'd need more background information regarding your experience, reason for writing, age/grade level, style of writing, etc. If you would like help, email me with a few details and I'll be specific on how to go about this.
