You should never wear a tampon if you aren't menstruating. I hate to ask but was he present during this at all?
If he was, I'd see another GP & discuss what had happened. It's definaely not normal practice & I fear he acted unprofessionally.

That's really weird i've never had to wear a tampon when i gave urine sample i would ask next time

I've never heard of this, however they want your sample to be as clean as possible. He probably did it to keep anything from effecting the results, like discharge. My doctors had me clean myself very very well before the urine sample. Congradulations!

I am an obgyn medical student, and I have NEVER heard of that before. However, I am thinking it is so that you can give a clean urine sample without discharge!

I've never heard of it, but maybe he wanted to be sure nothing interfered with the results like blood if you were spotting. You could still call and ask why he had you do that.

I never had to do that either, I would call the doctors office and ask one of the nurses...that is a little weird if you ask me!

Wow - I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and I have never heard of that. I would call to ask why and if they ask you to do it again at your next appointment, I think I would refuse. Just say, "I'm not really comfortable with that..."
