My doctor made me wear a tampon while i gave a urine sample. He is a very prominent doctor in this area. I wish I had asked why but I didn't. Why would i have to wear a tampon to give a urine sample?

You should never wear a tampon if you aren't menstruating. I hate to ask but was he present during this at all?

If he was, I'd see another GP & discuss what had happened. It's definaely not normal practice & I fear he acted unprofessionally.

I've never heard of this, however they want your sample to be as clean as possible. He probably did it to keep anything from effecting the results, like discharge. My doctors had me clean myself very very well before the urine sample. Congradulations!

I am an obgyn medical student, and I have NEVER heard of that before. However, I am thinking it is so that you can give a clean urine sample without discharge!

I've never heard of it, but maybe he wanted to be sure nothing interfered with the results like blood if you were spotting. You could still call and ask why he had you do that.

Wow - I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and I have never heard of that. I would call to ask why and if they ask you to do it again at your next appointment, I think I would refuse. Just say, "I'm not really comfortable with that..."
