Louis XIV starts with Jean-Baptiste Colbert a policy to stimulate trade (mercantilism). He founds several important "manufactures royales" : "Manufacture nationale de Sèvres" (porcelain), "Manufacture de Beauvais" (tapistry), "Compagnie des Glaces" (glass, later "Saint-Gobain").
