Your stereotype of an "emo" person?

Question

I'm with the MCRmy and we're fighting the War on Emo; that probably won't make sense to a lot of you, but basically we're the out to prove to people that just because someone likes a certain kind of music, doesn't mean they fit a sterotype.

So, what do you think is the sterotypical "emo" standerd?A person who wears only black? A person who cuts themselves? Let me know, and don't worry about being offensive, because we're out to break the stereotype!

My rambling is probably getting confusing...but thanks to anyone who answers. ^_^

Whiny, stupid looking hair, eye liner, horrible music like MCR, FOB, blink 182. Boo hoo my life sux! If I see that you like rock music too, I'm gonna come up and bug the **** out of you. One of the annoying giggly kids at the mall! quit following me little girl, you're too young.... go away!!

Emo is a type of music that doesnt barely even exist anymore. These teenagers who claim to slit their wrists and lead a depressing hopeless life, yet seem perfectly happy during the day are blurring the lines of their own stereotype. Personally i dont think you should be judged by the type of music you listen to, andnits not like you see any "electronica" people out there, its ridiculous. it has become more than a stereotype because people are now labeling themselves with this nonexistant stereotype.

When I think emo I think about someone in slim fit dark colored jeans, plain colored t-shirts, converse sneakers, no accessories, no make-up, natural colored hair that isn't very styled, maybe thick rimmed glasses. Someone who is very deep, and relies on their emotions and feelings. They have a way with words, and seem intelligent. Mainly I think Dashboard Confessional! I like their music, but I am definately not emo.

I didn't even though there was a "emo" type of person. Whatever happened to just being yourself and not putting names to everything. If I wear a flannel I'm grunge, if I wear black I'm goth.....GIVE ME A BREAK! I like music that I like from metal to reggae. Stereotypes are a bunch of bull.

when I think of emo, I think of middle class kids who have decided they have it so bad and the world hates them, but honestly need to just get over it. They seem to find it glamorous to be miserable...wierd. I do think of cutters, and not necessarily all black, but defiently lots of black clothing, they dye their hair dark and have no tan and have really bad posture cuz they are so mopey. They have STANGE style in my opinion, boys wear make-up sometimes, etc.

Thats what I picture as an emo person.

girls and guys look alike
heavy makeup
really skinny
lots of bracelets
emo music
garage band shows
thinks authority is out to get them
think their lives suck, when really they are upper middle class
cuts themselves

although, my cousin's kinda emo and she doesn't fit any of these categories, except the listening to emo music part.

a scrawny guy that dyes their hair black and keeps it long in awkward cuts that fall down in front of their eyes, borrow their sisters jeans so they will be the epitomy of tight fitting, wear hoodies even when it's 90 degrees out ... will listen to bands like dashboard, mcr, hellogoodbye and such... wear eyeliner and cry into their hoodies at shows... legitimate emo kids are pretty rediculous

i'm ashamed to say i always thought an emo was a person who cuts themselves, wears black, is depressed, likes satanic things, enjoys pain and torture and sadistic things, and stuff like that.
but, i met a few emos and they're pretty cool. they don't really fit into that stereotype. so then...
what is emo?

i think an emo is someone who wears all black and has any form of depression. By wearing black i am guessing they want to stand out thus we call them emos/goths. Also anyone who likes excessive violence and has thoughts of suicide and death and/or does excessive bodily damage (ex.: cutting, lots and lots of drugs) in my book is an EMO. Emos suck. they hate life...they cut themselves and they like evil.

I've only heard this term in the past few weeks, but from I understand, it's someone who is very emotional, thinks they have no happiness, listens to "down" songs, cuts themselves, and are generally unhappy with life and themselves.
