Its really simple guys....
Kobe is at the same skill LEVEL as what we think of jordan being... Like everyone says, hes a great scorer (unfortunately, he has a horrible FG percentage, meaning hes not as good as you laker fans think....). Him scoring 81 was impressive, but still, poor percentage....
Kobe does not have the same skill SET as Jordan did! We all know of jordan to be the only player to EVER pull off in one year:
Scoring title
Defensive title
NBA Championship
Finals MVP
Season MVP
Allstar MVP
and in the top 20 rebounders and assists for his position!
Kobe has scored.... thats all. Please show me ONE game where kobe has:
45+ points
50%+ Fieldgoal shooting
8+ rebounds
7+ assists
and his team wins.....
Then please show me the streak of 10 out of 11 games in a row, that Kobe scored a TRIPLE DOUBLE!!!!!! I was shocked when i saw that by MJ! it was simply amazing!
The reality is, kobe is good at ONE thing at a time.... but he doesnt know how to do the rest.....
and to all of you saying that kobe is a good passer, please tell me why he thinks Lamar Odom should be getting the ball on the wing for a three pointer..... a GOOD passer knows where his teammates are best from, and finds them there.... thats what seperates Kobe and Nash.... not the quality of teammates! Its the mental toughness of the ballhandler....

Back to reality. I think you brought up a great point, until you made the point that the Lakers supporting cast is better than the cavs. You couldn't be any further from the truth. Who do the Lakers have? Let's talk about their starting 5. Odom, Kwame, Kobe, Walton, Parker. Kwame is a joke, he has the worst hands of anyone in the entire NBA. Odom, a great player but not quite in that superstar category. Walton, a backup 3 at best, Parker- a #3 PG on practically every other NBA team. Lets look at the Cavs. Big Z- great post player, and a big guy that can shoot, play defense, and offensive rebound. Lebron-amazing player, Magic Johnson-esc, Larry Hughes- fantastic defender, quick slasher, great passer. Drew Gooden- Great Rebounder, good defender. Hell even the Cavs bench is significantly better.
I don't think comparing two players is really justified although it's aspects of their game that you compare not their whole game. Take Lebron he's been compared to M Jordan but realistically he plays a lot more like Magic Johnson.
Lastly, to Matt and all of the other guys who mentioned that Jordan was a team player. You must not have seen his first couple years in the NBA, he was just the opposite, leading scorer, and very similar to Kobe. It wasn't until he "figured" out he needed to get his other teammates involved that he truly started winning, but his scoring dropped.

The Lakers supporting cast is 'way better' than the Cavs? I don't know about that. The Cavs are flawed, but I think they are way better. First, Zydrunas Illgauskas is much better than anyone not named Kobe on the Lakers. Maybe, BIG MAYBE, that Andrew Bynum will someday be better, but Z is one of the 5 or 10 best centers in the league right now, and he's playing some of the best ball in his career right now. No question Lamar is more of a pure talent than Drew Gooden, but at least with Drew you know what you are going to get. Lamar breaks down physically and emotionally so much that you absolutely can't count on him. Larry Hughes or Smush Parker, hmm that's a tough choice. I think I'll go with Larry Hughes. Oh, and I'll take Daniel Gibson, Eric Snow and even Damon Jones over that loser too. Pavlovic is way better than Vuacic. And on and on. But your main question, it's hard to say. Neither Bryant nor James has a cast like MJ had. Those Bulls teams were well put together. I'd take Z over any center Jordan had, but Rodman, Harper and Pippen would start on either team, and Kerr would be the sharpshooter, too.

Shouldn't we stop comparing Kobe and Lebron to Michael. There can only be one Jordan, he was the best, will always be the best. The Lakers supporting cast may be better than the Cavs, but the Cavs supporting cast actually supported when Lebron need them to. Lamar was great, but Kobe never used him, and seriously who else do the Lakers have after Lamar?

It's ridiculous to compare the two. Kobe's a great player, he's one of the most dangerous scorers the league's ever seen but that's about where it ends. Jordan carried the Bulls to every championship and made all of his teammates better while doing it. Pippen was unable to do anything without him in Chicago and as soon as he left the Bulls he was horrible. Kobe can't do that. He has some good talent around him now but no one can see that because he doen't help them get better. Jordan could do anything on a basketball court. He used to get doubled and tripled like todays "stars" are but he was able to break through and still win games whether it was by passing and giving teammates wide open looks or just blowing past everyone. Kobe forces shot after shot when he's doubled, he looks ridiculous doing it most of the time. Everyone needs to stop comparing anyone to Jordan, there wont be another Jordan, he was one of a kind

I made this point a day ago and now its spreading like a Florida wildfire. LeBron's team is no different from Lakers from a talent stand point. Compare the two squads player for player and you will see. Kobe wants another ''superstar'' and that star must be just as dominate or else. Kobe played his best ball when had someone to feed off not the other way around. On those teams when they won those rings, he was Pip and Shaq was Mike. He purely is not a leader. It takes more than great one on one skills to be a leader. Until he learns to truly be a leader then he will forever be in the first round. Oh, and JK, Mike was a ball hog at first, but his scoring didn't go down cause of his passing. And calling anyone on the Cavs great other than LB, says you nothing about B-ball.

It's hard to compare anyone to Jordan. MJ not only played consistently at the highest level, but more importantly he was clutch and elevated the play of his teammates. Jordan was able to make the most marginal players look like all-stars. Michael Jordan was able to lift a team on his back and win championships with him as the focal point. The only titles Kobe has won was as the second fiddle to Shaq...so I guess we should say Kobe is more Pippen than Jordan.
I think Kobe is best compared to Dominique Wilkins. "The Human Highlight Reel", as he was called put up big numbers and some nice Sportscenter highlights, but he could not do what it took to lead his team to a championship.

LOL this isnt even close. MJ is better. Kobe might be the better player and have better skills as an individual, but Jordan had that drive in him to win at any cost. There is just something about Jordan that no player will ever have, Jordan just has "IT". Kobe has the closest form of "IT" but hes not Jordan. For me its like comparing Lebron to Kobe. Lebron is the better player but nowhere near as good as Kobe.

Kobe is one of a handful of players that can't be stopped offensively but lacks in other areas. I don't believe you can compare anyone to Jordan but of all the players today LeBron would come the closest. LeBron is an absolute monster with a huge upside, and he is a winner. Kobe tries to do it all himself while both James and Wade involve their teammates to a greater extent.

I agree 100%. I think this will over time diminish how great everyone thinks Kobe is. He does not make the players around him better, the hallmark of a truly great player. This guy is a classless punk who puts himself before all others in his orginization.
Give him three more years of fading out of the playoffs early, and he will NEVER be compared to MJ again. He won't even be in top 5 consideration.
Heck, his career stats aren't even that impressive:
PPG= 24.5 RPG=5.4 APG=4.5 TOPG=2.91
FG%=45% 3pt%=33%
Looks like Mitch Richmond/Reggie Miller/500 other good SGs.
Kobe is WAAAAAAAYYYYY overrated.
