I'm not an American, but i do know the basics of US politics. Personally, I I think that the amount of conservatives on this site outweighs the number of liberals. Many say that the Liberals are unpatriotic towards the USA, quoting stats (such as the unemployment rate, etc) and claiming the economy is on the decline, and saying it must be fixed. However I disagree. To me if the Liberals are saying these things then that shows to me that they are more patroitic to theirs and your country as they obviously strifing to constantly improve their country. Now people say that the conservatives are happy with these stats, and so must be patriotic - to me that indicates that the US Rpeublicans are happy to sit at a "good enough" rate, as opposed to the Democrats who, to me, trying to improve all the time.

If anything I'd say that the Repubs are the unpatriotic ones.
So to all conservatives, after seeing this point of perspective, you have to admit it does make sense, does that change your view

Too often, when you try to use politics to improve the economy, you end up messing it up even more.

You want to applaud the Dems for trying without regard as to whether their attempts are flawed & will make things worse.

Conservatives have quoted quite a few stats as well. Funny you should refer to unemployment rates. Our unemployment rate is the lowest it's been in quite a while.

You kind of nailed it. Most conservatives on here are just bashers. There are a lot of other conservatives that do use facts and figures. I am currently reading the Reagan Dairies and have become nostalgic for him because he would use facts and figures to win an argument. That is not the perception but if you go over some of his old speeches, there they are.

Answers here is basically full of bashers and thrashers, liberals and conservatives who just want to beat the other guy, look smart, and not necessarily make a point that would win a high school debate or a new ally. This is not the place for moderates who are sick of politics, this is the reason they are.

To the Democrat who answered that we fight but are basically a family. I think overall he is generally right. Here we are letting our dysfunctions show.

I personally am right of center, but I am noticing if some of the answers here are a reflection, no longer conservative. Of course I am not, nor ever was, nor can be, an ideologue either. Can't stand constantly replying with mantra, too boring.

I wondered if people outside of the United States could see that American liberals want to address our nation's problems, and make our country the best it can possibly be

while American conservatives spend their energies covering up our nation's problems, attacking and labeling as "traitors" those who wish to honestly improve America through education and appropriate democratic action.

You are correct. American conservatives, in spite of their love of the word "patriotism", are in fact very, very unpatriotic in their actions.

We'll break bread should you ever visit the U.S.

It would be my honor

Your post makes little sense and shows your lack of a grasp of American politics. Patriotism swings both ways for the idiots in charge of the gov't. I have yet to see conservatives say they are happy with these items. Unemployment will never be at 0% so by saying they are pleased that it is low they are not saying they want people to be unemployed. The economy is stagnant but not in a recession. Neither party has a clue how to stimulate the economy at this point. Only the federal treasury is doing things to keep the nation going - financially.

Pointing out problems doesn't make you any more or less patriotic than the next person. Solving them does.

Well, thanks for "getting it" It's good to hear someone from outside the US, as US foreign policy affects the rest of the world in ways that the rest of us are not aware of.

I think there are a lot of people who are afraid and will follow whichever group can guarantee their safety, if that is something that can be guaranteed. Fear is a big factor.

Some people are dedicated to "things" material wealth power and money. Some just want to help others and give back. When there is extreme imbalance in our country, like now, we are very divided...there are groups who resort to juvenile behavior, back stabbing and mudslinging.

Anyway, read this:

and thanks again!

You do make a good point. I am a conservative, but not one of the hard headed American conservatives that you are speaking of. I think there should be less government.

My biggest gripe is all of the able bodied Americans that are on SIS or welfare do so because they are lazy. Now some people will hate me for that statement, but in all honesty that is how I view it.

Yes, you were correct that liberals are concerned about the unemployment rate, so are the republicans. I think we all need to stand behind our leaders, and be more involved in what is going on. Your right on one aspect, but the liberals are the ones protesting, and trying to make everyone believe what they believe and then brow beat us because we don't think the same as they do. I think Rosie O'Donnell is the best example of this.

If by improve you mean destroy morality I cannot agree with you.
If by improve you mean to keep an impoverished people hooked on handouts in order to buy a vote I cannot agree with you
If by improve you mean to not appropriate funding to troops in harms way I cannot agree with you
Unemployment is down, growth is up and I want improvement but not at the cost of a countries morality

Does this change your view?

I'm a democrat. I fight sedition. I fight socialism.
I am a patriot who knows how to legislate, vote, disagree, dissent, and protest, all without undermining our country.

So do most Republicans. So do most Democrats.

The socialists in our country want to undermine us.
The seditious in our country want to undermine us.

It's actually pretty easy to understand. They want to divide us and make the other political party "the enemy".

It isn't. Republicans are my brothers. We fight a lot, but I see a fellow American. I've had ample evidence that they see me as well.

I, like they, have no tolerance for the name-calling, the rumor-mongering, the treatment of our officials as "guilty until proven innocent" no matter WHO is the target.

We're Americans, first, political parties, second.

You may think your summary is accurate, but it's simplistic. America is as complex as the diverse people it stands for.

My summary is simplistic as well. However, I know it.
Now you know as well.

Change does not mean "Good".
Look at what Russia tolerated for so many years!

I agree, to an extent. In America, if you want to improve your country and are liberal, you are unpatriotic. However, if you are conservative and want to make changes, it's okay.

You would never hear me saying that traditional American values are wrong, or the rules that were set up for this country were in a time that does not render it worthy in the present! You would never hear me say a soldier is a terrorist, you would never hear me say that you are wrong if you legally own a gun, you would never see me demonstrate at funerals or memorials of fallen soldiers. You will never hear me say it is OK to break the laws set forth in this country. I am not much of a fan of God, but essentially, God was also a basic principle in this country, and you would never hear me moan about phrases on currency or what not! Think about it!
