"The day is not far distant when three Stars & Stripes at three equidistant points will mark our territory: one at the North Pole, another at the Panama Canal and the third at the South Pole. The whole hemisphere will be ours in fact as, by virtue of our superiority of race, it already is ours morally."
I think it is proof of Americas imperialism, something which is still going on today and which is why a lot of people hate the U.S.

Brick: latin americans had complex cities and lived in harmony with nature instead of trying to change nature, while we now do the latter. So in a sense, we are now the more uncivilized people.

First, although I agree we are imperialistic, the past NEVER proves the present.
It is our arrogance that offends; such as the comment that Latin America couldn't possibly get electricity without our intervention. Most 3rd world countries are 3rd world because of our med ling and worse in their affairs.
It is hard for the rest of the world to look at our abundance and see that we do nothing with it , while whining all the way to the bank. That's not jealousy, its a total astonishment as to the level of selfishness displayed by those who have everything and not just Americans, but the elite of every nation. America bashing makes no sense as we are not the evil of the world, just one of many.
The people on the bottom are all on the same side. As long as the top has us competeing for crumbs and fighting each other, they get to keep the wealth and the underpaid work force.
Illegals aren't taking anything from us but we are paying for the lifestyles of the rich and famous every time we go to work or buy something.
Yes, the legacy of Tafft continues and as you can see from some of the reponses so many people still don't get it.

i'm an Obama supporter and those are my ideas: i admire Ron Paul even nonetheless i do no longer inevitably accept as true with Libertarianism and the 1st one to attempt it might possibly see extreme aftereffects and the assumption will bypass down in flames. i'm thirty years previous and this could be the 1st election I vote in. I relatively have constantly felt that there is a 2 occasion phantasm in this united states and the prosperous placed who they pick in workplace. It relatively scares me that Obama have been given as far as he has and yet, he looks so actual. How did he ruin interior the direction of the duality? Ron Paul could have been a much extra effective opponent for Obama and can have made him sweat a sprint. i do no longer know the way McCain is so extreme interior the polls whilst Bush became into so low. i assume human beings are likely to be stupid and it relatively is the same people who voted for Bush 2 circumstances! Republicans know in the event that they vote for Ron Paul it relatively is going to likely be a wasted vote, it relatively is why Independents are not getting many votes. they're afraid in the event that they strengthen some balls and vote for him, that the worser of the assumed 2 evils gets the white homestead. till we are able to persuade extra human beings to vote self sustaining and stay faraway from the events, this duality will proceed.

I think perhaps Taft had a superiority complex.. much like the fool in this White house. None of this will happen.. but you are right it probably does help to lead to why many countries hate and fear us.

A lot of countries had imperialistic mass psychology in that era. It took decades of resistance from colonized peoples to destroy that incorrect public impression. Conservatism in the US has always advocated a return to the world of the 1890's and a return to colonialism is a part of that philosophy--that is the philosophical basis of the Iraq War.

You're reaching on that one. The US is happy with its current borders and being a sovereign nation. Maybe you should point this question at the nation of Mexico and the Mexican leadership saying, 'we will take America back without firing a shot.'

Taft was voted out of office 99 years ago.
I hope more people hate us. Then they'll stop coming here!
I think it's jealousy, not hate.
