How can you be gay or lesbian, and claim to be a Christian, when the Bible states that it is a sin to sexually lust or wed someone of the same gender?

Do you only practice part of the Bible as a Christian?

P.S. I am not a Bible-thumper trying to get an agenda cross, as I'm not devoutly religious. I grew up in a protestant family, but I haven't been to church since about age 13 (I'm 25 now).

not everyone interpretes the bible the same. 50 years ago the majority felt getting a divorce was sinful. Now it is accepted by the majority. why the change? did we suddenly understand what god was saying all along?

Checkout my reference for an alternative interpretation on homosexuality and the bible. Do not be afraid to do a little research yourself.

Hi the problem is people don't take the whole bible, they will pick the bits that suit there argument, also the bible has been translated loads of times and people have made errors in the interpretation and i believe even added bits for there own gains, i am a catholic and gay and have never had any problems with them getting on, the church i go to is very understanding and they know i am gay and in a committed relationship, i have no problems with either my faith or my sexuality

Good question.

There is nothing wrong with being gay and a christain.

I know alot of so callled christians that are at the bar saturday night, center pew on sunday.

How about these so called christian bussines men that have a bible in one hand and a knife in the other.

I could go on and on about this one.

Personally I think you can be gay and a christain.
Can you be a wife beater and still claim to be a christian, or an alcholic, con-artist????
Many are and do claim christian stauts.

My answer is Yes you can.

The bible is a guide. Science is why things the way they are. There was not a lot of known science when the bible was written. How long did we think the world was flat until Columbus explored and found out things just werent as it seemed.... The Bible does not allow for evolution and it happens to be a proven fact that it happens in every species arround us every day. I believe some or most of the bible but you cant deny science either.

If you took the time and really studied the bible that part that supposedly says it's bad is also in the old testament. That portion of the Bible's rules were meant to be ignored with the creation of the new testament. If someone follows one of the Leviticus laws, they are supposed to follow ALL the laws. This is not being done. The bible thumpers are only picking and choosing which laws they are supposedly obeying. Then they choose to ignore the rest. I have no problem being a Christian and following the Laws set down by God. I don't follow the leviticus laws, because the Bible says I'm not supposed to. Pretty simple, huh.

The Bible can be interpreted several ways. It's open to intrpretation by anyone.

Most people have not carefully and prayerfully researched the Biblical texts used by some people to condemn God's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children.
Historically, people's misinterpretation of the Bible has left a trail of suffering, bloodshed, and death.
We should be open to new truth from Scripture. Even heroes of the Christian faith have changed their minds about the meaning of various Biblical texts.
The Bible is a book about God. The Bible is not a book about human sexuality.
We miss what these passages say about God when we spend so much time debating what they say about sex.
The Biblical authors are silent about homosexual orientation as we know it today. They neither approve it nor condemn it.
The prophets, Jesus, and the Biblical authors say nothing about homosexual orientation as we understand it today. But, they are clear about this one thing. As we search for truth, we are to "Love one another."

The same way people can eat shellfish, work on Saturdays and shave call themselves Christians while claiming homosexuality as a sin. They only practice part of the Bible as Christians.

Well I'm certainly not a Christian, but Galatians 3:28 states that "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." indicating to some people that the restrictions on gender from Leviticus were lifted, I don't know of any Christians who actually adhere to the laws of Leviticus or consider them important to being a Christian (except when the subject of homosexuality comes up) now that Jesus represents the "new covenant".

I am aware of a negative reference to (male) homosexuality in the New Testament but its in the context of adultery and could be dismissed (along with the various factual and chronological inconsistancies between the four gospels) as due to the fact that the gospel writers were "imperfect human messengers". As for the following passage supposedly condemning lesbiansim the "strange fruit" as same-sex business is just unsupportable, how can one's own sex be strange or unfamiliar?

The Bible says alot of things are sins but many of the alleged Christians don't say anything about that.

But just where in the Bible is it stated that same sex marriage is a sin??

Christian = believing Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus didn't say anything about homosexuality. He was pretty much about the love and acceptance and that sort of stuff.
The Bible was written by men (not God) and rewritten and rewritten, and very often (check history throughout) as a way to keep people "in their place."
