I took 2 different at home pregnancy tests late last week-both positivie! I went to the dr.s office on friday for a blood test. The Dr. called today and said congratulations I was pregnant, but asked me to come in for another blood test to make sure the hormone was going up. Is this common? Kinda worried I have to retest. Thanks

Yes, congratulations on having a Dr that pays attention. My doctor did the same thing...I went in 4 times and the hormone doing what it should. Every 24 hours the Hcg hormone # should double. If it doesn't, you will probably get some progesterone meds to help you along. In my case, I had suppositories (they are apparently the most direct way to add the Hcg to your baby growing environment...kind of makes sense if you think about it) and took them until I was 12 weeks 4 days. After 12 weeks, the umbilical cord takes over and there is no danger.

There is a risk of miscarraige without the proper hormone level to sustain the baby.

Good luck and don't worry -- your Doctor sounds like he or she is on the ball!

Congrats on the pregnancy. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. Sometimes with a result comes back a lil abnormal, they want a retest to make sure the result is right. The first result might have been fainted or something. It's a pregnancy test so don't worry!

I'm not 100% sure why, perhaps just personal preference, but I also had 2 blood tests done, 3 days apart, to ensure the HcG was climbing properly. As far as I know, it's nothing to be worried about.

I never had to retest. I would call the Dr. office and have them give you an explenasion and ask them if you should be worried.

I've never had to retest either with all three. I would definitly call and ask why they are retesting you have a right to know.

Yes, they want to make sure your hcg levels are escalating properly, which indicates that the pregnancy is progressing.
