My greatest loss is the look of innocense that was lost in my daughters eyes when at the age of 4 she was hurt by a grown man

My 10 year old daughter spent weeks and weeks in hospital fighting for her life from a rare bone cancer. I spent a lot of that time during visiting in the smoking lounge indulging my habit . She lost her battle and I lost those precious hours in a smoke filled room away from her side. I have since stopped smoking but twenty to years later I still grieve that lost time.

If there ever was a reason to quit smoking this was it.

And is for those who still smoke. It is a useless pass time and is possibly attributable to more that a health crisis. It may be contributing , like in my case , to a very regrettable form of neglect.

It is the old story of " If I knew then what I know now"

My mother. She died for me in 1971, when I was just an eight-year-old boy. Well, my father was an alcoholic and would physically and emotionally abuse her, cheat on her, etc. I had five other brothers and sisters, and it was hard for her to live and she couldn't really take care of my siblings and me. I saw her commit suicide that Friday night with my dad's handgun.

That has been my greatest loss. Social security had us move to Cincinnati with our aunt. My mother gave us a better life, but during the rest of my life it's been haunting me, all the blood, the loud pop, the pallid body.

Thank you for asking that. It felt good to have that off my chest.

Yours,
Ed H.

My greatest loss has been the loss of the archaic beliefs that I was socially ingrained with by all the people who thought they knew better than me what is best for me. Such as organized religion, society, moralistic fundamentalists etc. Losing all the dogma and starting to think for myself and trust in myself and not in some outer influence and outer beliefs and knowing that God is within and part of me and I can trust that, is the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Would have to go with breaking up with the X. It is not like I have not had other losses, I have had friends die in car accidents, all but one of my grandparents are dead, I have MS, lost toy cars in accidents or through neglect, no it is because that one hurt the most. Puked every morning for a month. Doesn’t even know why that one hurt so much shouldn’t have, but it did.

The loss of physical ability. With advancing age, one experiences pain and aches as things wear out. I was very athletic in my youth and now it hurts to jump and can even result in injury. Running is impossible due to a foot injury and walking can soon become painful. With the loss of mobility has come degradation of physical health. My strength and stamina has begun to wane.

My greatest loss, was my oldest grandson, who was murdered at the age of 23 years old, by men who were worst than animals when they ended the life of my Grandson, Men, who took the Law into their own hands, thinking they were God to do it. I hope they will get what they deserve when they die.

I lost my sanity one day last year when I woke up. The stars are falling and coffee looks like bread to me. I hate cereal because the demons jump out of the box and laugh at me. Wait, what was the question again?

The illusion that my family had any natural affection for me, and their values system was based solely on who seemed more likely to be financially successful or popular in life.

The effect was more of a positive one, though.

I lost my wife. And I mean that in just about every sense of the word.

I know she would have never left me willingly. But one day she was just gone. And some strange woman was in her place. One who was selfish and cruel.

I divested myself of the stranger and have been looking for my wife ever since. It is a loss I feel constantly.
